So my rear hatch wont completely disengage by just popping the lever in the cabin, i have to hold it up, and have a friend lift the hatch then i can let it go. its kind of busted up back there (previous owner treated the car like crap), so im assuming something is just broke. i dont get what parts do what enough to know what might be broken and needs to be replaced.I cant move the latch any further down or else the hatch wont close.

I know there is a spring in there. Once the latch is released the spring will make the trunk raise a little bit so you can lift it. Remove the rear panel and check if the spring felt off or it is really loose.
I wish I can get a picture to show it. But once you see it you will know what I mean.

Also, does the strut raise the trunk? are they worn?

they hold the trunk while its open. my interior is completely stripped right now, i see no spring. i will take pics, i think one of the cables is broken off but i dont know what it is. its not the alarm or the cable to release the hatch... i'll take pics tomorrow

I found something!
That is the spring I am talking about!

that square part with the 2 rivets is what is broke off. but i cant get to my car til later tonight but im pretty sure that spring is there, when i said that last night i wasnt by my car either and guess i just overlooked that.
