Has anyone ever used an EVO 9 Fuel pump, and at how much boost/power?

The Evo 8 and Evo 9 OEM pump are a direct fit for the 2G Turbos. Now I'm just waiting on my Evo 10 pump to get to me so we can make a trio out of this upgrade. :)

What I'd like to know is...is there any measurable difference between the Evo 8 and Evo 9 pumps? Some say there is, but you're the guy with first hand experience. :)

Almost everytime I come across an Evo fuel pump thread, here you are. And now getting an X pump?! Damn:)

Only 'cause I've done this upgrade myself, and love it to death. The 8 is in and doing very well. The 9 is sitting in my basement waiting to either cut in to the dance or going to be tested. I bought the 10 about 1.5 months ago, and the guy still hasn't gotten it to me. I've gotta light a fire under his ass or something. I'm in no major hurry because the whip is running just fine, but I still did pay for it fair-n-square. :|

Yes! There is a big difference between the Evo 8 and 9 OEM pumps. The 9 is definitely superior, no doubt about it. (I've seen what AMS has done with the OEM 10 pump, so I have high expectations for it. Only hope it's also a direct fit.) Look in Nate's thread here and you'll see the answer you seek. :)

Awesome! I saw what Chewbacca said. One more question, though: With that Evo 9 fuel pump, do you use the stock DSM FPR, an aftermarket FPR, or an Evo FPR? Depends on what thread you read and who you choose to ask, but some say the Evo FPR works on our cars. Regardless, I was just wondering what FPR you used with that Evo 9 pump.

...and...when are you getting rid of it? The pump, I mean. ;)

Which one?

I'm actually doing some testing in the next couple of months on the Evo 8/9 OEM FPRs. I'll have to remember to post up something about them (installation, holding capacities, overflow limitations). When I installed my 8, I used the 2G FPR for a while, because the funds weren't there to do too much else. Then when I rewired the pump (which I highly recommend), I also put in an AFPR.

You're going to overflow the 2G FPR with the Evo 9 pump. Sorry I don't have any more solid information than that for you at this time. If this was a few months in the future, I would have a more definite solution for you. Hopefully the Evo FPRs are direct bolt-ons. If they are, then we have just found a cheap but highly reliable solution to the whiney Wallys and expensive AFPRs.

is there any evo fuel pump for a 1g that is a DIRECT bolt on or do they ALL require some minor modification- I see that there are some direct evo replacements for 2g cars-

DSMunknown, you seem to be the guy to ask about using EVO fuel pumps 8-10 in our 2Gs. I have an MHI big16g with 660s and have an EVO 8 pump ready to be put in. After seeing the flow rates I knew this would be a good cheap choice, also being a direct bolt on.

But one of the threads said the EVO 8 has this relief valve that kicks in @ X psi. I believe it was you who said that this relief will kick in about 21-22lbs of boost. Is this the major limitation for the EVO 8 pump, and how does this effect upping the boost above that. So even rewired once it hits that relief point its no good?

You mention the EVO9 pump will overflow the stock 2g fpr, but how bout the EVO8?

EDIT, actually it was someone else who posted the info on the relief valve:

You didn't really comment on it in the thread.

Hope you got my email.

I will be doing some testing with some OEM FPRs and pumps. (Now I just need the a-holes to send me the parts I paid for months ago.) As I said in the email, I will post up all the info and photos I have on this topic. Should be good. :)

Just got my Evo 9 pump. My Walbro was just too loud that I got sick of it. Anything to know before I install it? Apparently it's a direct swap?

There isn't anything to know, it is exactly a direct swap, just be careful taking the old pump out and moving the o-ring so you don't crack anything or damage the seal. A stock 2g pump and an evo 9 pump look so similar that an untrained eye wouldn't tell the difference.

As for rewiring an evo8 pump, no this will have no effect on the relief valve.

My understanding about FPRs is that the evo FPRs are essentially no different than 2g ones and the fuel is controlled by how much current is provided to the pumps, think rewired vs stock but having both wiring sets in there, now have the computer control which set is used (obviously this isn't how it works but the idea is functionally the same). Basically during low/no boost the car provides less power to the pump, then past a certain fuel pressure the amount of power provided to the pump goes up which increases flow without overrunning an otherwise overtaxed FPR.

Just chiming in because my evo 8 fuel pump just came in and road race engineerings web site says its comparable to a 190 so im going to try and swap it this weekend.

I hightly recommend the EVO pumps. They flow more than the walbro 190, are bolt on with no install kits needed, are stock quiet, and can be found CHEAP ($30-$40) from the EVO guys. I have an EVO IX rewired fuel pump and have no complaints.

I have a evoIX fuel pump in both my 1gb's. Installation is pretty much the same as any walbro.

That's what I figured. For more info about the Wally install, click here.

Sorry to bring back this old thread but I plan on running an evo 9 fuel pump here in a couple of days and i was not going to rewire it just yet. So i was wondering if i would be able to use the stock fpr until I diecided to rewire? Since my plan is go be within 300-350 awp do i even need to rewire it?

Yes you can. By not rewiring the fuel pump you are flowing less than you would with a rewire, so you would overrun the stock FPR even less than a rewired. I ran an EVO IX rewired fuel pump for over 2 years with no issues in my DD.

I don't see why not. The plugs have been the same forever LOL

You could just run a 255lph without the AFPR, although its not recommended. But there are a bunch of people on here running a 255 with no AFPR and dont really see and ill effects.

W/O a regulator your just gonna run a tad rich at idle. I know a few guys who run without. One of them ran 10.89 @126... Another is me and my 14b.;)

yes you can run a IX pump, we took one out of my buddies MR, and put it in my laser, ran just fine.
