I am building a 2.0 7-Bolt, the block has been machined to .20 over.
I am running Carrillo rods with Wiseco HD pistons. I installed the crank a few weeks ago and i can rotate it by hand with no issue.
Today i installed the #1 piston but as i am rotating the crank and the piston is on the way up it gets a bit harder to turn. When ahead and installed the #2 piston and it got a bit harder to turn by hand. I can turn it with a ratchet with no issues but i am not sure if this is normal or if something went wrong with the build. I am with in clearance for piston / rods, any ideas if this is ok or if something is actually wrong?

Thank you.

Yeah this is normal because of the friction of the rings on the honed block, as you keep adding Pistons it gets harder and harder to rotate the crankshaft. It normally gets more difficult to turn about half way through the stroke. as it gets to tdc and bdc it'll feel easier to turn the crank.

Once you install the fourth piston it'll be pretty much impossible to turn the crank by grabbing onto either end of the crank and the use of a ratchet will be the only way to turn the crank

Thank you, one last question.
I am trying to figure out if i installed my rings the correct way. Do i use what Wiseco suggest or what i see most people suggest on the forums.
I have not been able to confirm if the suggestions i am seeing here are only for OEM rings.
The below picture is the way i am installing my rings. Is this the correct way?

Yes that gap placement will be fine.

What did you set your ring gaps too?

Yes the rotation of the crank will firm up as the throw goes over TDC/BDC but it should still feel smooth and not sticky.

You may want to check and make sure that the correct rod cap is on each rod, and in the correct orientation.

Not sure what the ring gap is, I plastigage all 4 rods and i am with in clearance.
My rod big end clearance for all 4 pistons is .25mm ( 0.010 ) which i believe is within spec.
With all 4 pistons in i can rotate the engine with a ratchet with not much force.

The machine shop set the rings for me and when i asked what the ring gap is he stated that it is set for what i wanted. The machine shop is a highly recommended DSM machine shop in Orlando ( Obt Area ) but i was not feeling the customer service especially when you are spending a good chunk of change.
