dear all,

i have searched a lot but really could not find a straight answer to my problem, therefor i need your help please

recently i have changed the 4 mountings of the engine and since then i am having problem in shifting gears ??? sometimes it shifts perfectly but sometimes suddenly i can not go to 1 or to second gear if iam launching from a stop

my only question is if i am struggling to put it into first gear why when i rev the car a bit while i am pressing the clutch it would go smoothley to gear ( once i am revv the car while pressing the clutch the shiftting is perfect )

what should i check? this problem is really annoying now

PS.
i just put GL4 90 w fluid in the transmission so its brand new
clutch checked and bled and all ok , cylinder head is ok also no leaking
no grinding in the gear its just very difficult to put it into first or second and you can really feel some movements in the gear knob while shifitng it from first to second

my clutch is releasing completely and there is no problem in my clutch

can you please answer my question

my only question is if i am struggling to put it into first gear why when i rev the car a bit while i am pressing the clutch it would go smoothley to gear ( once i am revv the car while pressing the clutch the shiftting is perfect )

Thanks

dear all ,

please i do not need maybe answers ( please answer my question only ) why i can shift when i am pressing the clutch and rev the engine. if i am doing that the gear is very smooth and no problem at all when i stop revv the engine the gear will be hard again ???

The syncros are worn. By revving the engine you are taking a load off of the syncros. It becomes easier to shift because the two shafts are spinning at the same speed.

Be a little more patient. Everyone is trying to help.

there is no grinding and my gear is not notshy so how come the syncros are worn ???

i am just having difficulties in putting it to gear from stop and during low RPM. i mentioned in the thread about the engine mounts do you think that could play a role ?

what about the tranny cables that are under the tranny mount?

any feed back will be highly appreciated

Thanks

The fact that it does not want to go IN and only goes in when 'Rev Matched' all points to the syncros. And to help your questions, syncros can go bad in one gear set, hence why your other shifts feel fine. I doubt cables because the rest of your transmission acts normal, same with the motor mounts. If one of them was off enough to cause a problem, it should be a constant problem, not just with one gear.

If it shifts fine with the car off, it's clutch related. If not, it's tranny related. I would say its your synchros headin out to crapville.

guys it shifts perfectly sometimes but suddenly it just does not want to go to first only

if i put second gear and then first it goes fine but first gear straight then i should force it ?

if my syncros are gone then i will hear some grinding or nothciness right ? my car does not have any????

i can go to reverse easily no problem and to 3rd 4th 5th all perfect ( JUST THE FIRST GEAR) and when i am changing from 1 to 2 ( why can it be the cables ?)

thanks for your input

I said MAYBE cause NO ONE will KNOW until you tear the tranny apart...we can't all just take shots in the dark guessing whats wrong with YOUR car?!?!?

I DID ANSWER YOUR QUESTION THOUGH..... its just that YOU aren't Listening.

All you can do is try to adjust your cables, linkage and the clutch....if that doesn't work then its LIKELY that your syncros are bad. Im not going to say its 100% your syncros, cause NO one could make that determination without opening the tranny up. Or at least driving the car.

All WE can do is push you in the right direction and try to help....we cant KNOW 100% what's wrong with your car just from a description?!?!?

SO I'LL SAY IT AGAIN......SYNCRO'S MAYBE ?? Check them out and report back to us....now the rest is up to YOU my friend.

dear JEFF99GS

thank you very much for answering back i did not mean anything mate, its just because i love my car so much and i dont want to believe that the syncros are gone :) i believe you know what i mean :p

i will try with the simple stuff first ( can you help me out in finding a way how to adjust the cables of the tranny) i am talking about the cables that are next to the tranny mount. can i put some grease on them ???

thanks

Yes you can grease them but if they have a lot of play in them grease won't help much. Some people replace them with skateboard bearings like in the picture.

However you might NOT be able to adjust the shift linkage on your 2g....SO check around the shifter base for adjustable nuts on the linkage. if the cables are out of spec, stuck or stretched you will just have to buy new shifter cables if they have NO adjusters.

your gonna end up having to pull the tranny, i mean it sucks but its gonna be the only way to know exactly what your problem is.

well guess what was happening :)

there was an excessive PLAY in the cables bearing and thats why it was hard to put it into first gear

there was a play in the left cable ( the one for the first and the second gear)

i brought a can of pepsi and cut it with a scissors into small metal plates and i rap the bearing with it ( now its very tight and its not playing) and the most important MY GEAR IS VERY SMOOTH NOW

THANK YOU GUYS

cheers :rocks:

I have a 90 gsx I down shifted into 1st at to high speed and blew through the safty lock out. I screwed my 1st gear syncros. I now have the same problem except I also canot down shift into 1st with out rev matching. SO I would say high probablity syncros.
