A little background, my car has occasionally downshifted itself from 3-2 in the past as I am slowing down using the brakes. It wasn't a hard shift and I took it as normal behavior.
Well today I'm doing about 35 down the road when my tranny all of a sudden does a full line pressure 3-2 downshift and scares the hell out of me. After the light I begin to accelerate and realize the transmission isn't working right at all. I couldn't even tell what gear it was in, it was very loose. On top of this, the car began to idle around 2k rpms and had a sputter almost like I had a boost leak?
I was almost home so I limped it back, pulled the CEL's but had nothing. I sat there and shifted it in and out of gears a little and found that the reverse to drive shift was very rough and I could hear a metal-on-metal popping as I did it, however this could be from shifting with the high idle, Im not sure.
I hadn't been running the car particularly hard today. I changed the fluid and filter less than 7k miles ago, fluid level was fine also. Any insight on this would be great.
The transmission downshifting itself very hard at a coast and then acting erratically has to be indicative of something.
