Like it said, my car was making a loud ticking noise and I thought it was the valves hitting the pistons. But when I took the cylinder head off I don't see any bent valves. However, when I took the oil pan off, there it is, handful of thin sheet of metal. The metal was black (of course), and bronze looking. I also notice that my second rod was shaved on the bottom. I could not think of a component where it could rub with to get it shaved on like that. I also notice that my 3rd rod had a black or burnt tint on the bottom portion of it. Any help is appreciated.

I will try to take a picture of it later.

Is your car by chance a MTX? If so, the crank might be walking that would explain the shavings. Do you know what it feels like to have crankwalk?

No, I have a GST. I don't know what crankwalk feels like but I think it is the bearings.

It could be any of the bearings in the short block. You should drop the oil pan and get a good look just in case. I had something similar when I spun a rod bearing and it made one hell of a loud racket. Like ticking x 100.

No, I meant is it a manual or an automatic. If your car was/is ticking and knocking it's a strong possiblity that it's walking. It's really easy to check to crankwalk, drive the car at a moderate speed around a long sweeping left hand corner and if the clutch drops to the floor or pedal feel decrease qutie a bit, the crank is walked. And yes that means your mains are shot as well along with other bearings. I'm just trying to see if you can save your crank.

you have one thing wrong and one thing only... same thing happend in my probe.. but i got the ticking while runnning it to its max.. blow out a ROD BEARING....... thats what you need... if its anything like a mazda motor.. youll have two per rod...

way to fix it with out taking motor out....
get the oil pan off again... try to rotate the motor.. till all rod caps are show to you.. and take them off... inside the rod caps.. is the ROD BEARINGs.. youll need to push the rod up very little so you can get them both off... then replace.. try pulling it down.. if no luck.. its ok.. tighten it up and your done...

you should just go ahead and take the whole motor out and rebuild it... if you dont even want to do anything.. ill buy it off you... so give me a line...

Thanks guys, I am thinking about swapping 6 bolt in there. What is your offer glish_dreams? I am willing to sell couple more stuff if I can get the 6 bolt.

Thanks for all your inputs.

If you pull this engine, check your oil pump, and your entire oiling system. The discoloration on the #3 rod indicates that it got very hot, and the only way it can get that hot is oil starvation. Either the gears in your oil pump are worn down, or something blocked the flow of oil to those rods.

yea.. like i said.. it was a bearing.. nothing else would be the reason.. how do i knwo this.. happened on me on two cars now...

hey man.. u still got that motor for sell?
