Metal in pan and on oil pan shield

I pulled my pan and found a few metal shavings in it. Nothing too major, maybe 2 pieces 2mm long and some shiny dust sized pieces. But I took off the shield between the pan and the rotating assembly and found these metal pieces on the top of it (picture)

The pan had silvery flakes in it, the shield has odd shaped bits of non-ferrous metal on it. The car ticked when it was torn down but it wasn't rod knock. It wasn't loud enough and went away after 2500rpm. I don't remember if oil pressure was good or not.

The car ran okay until it started pushing coolant...so could I have spun a bearing too and not known it? ...

So I'm going to start pulling the bearings to find where this damage came from. Where else should I look? The balance shaft bearing? Any other help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

i would look all over i had the same problem but more metal shavings and bigger pieces later i found a hole melted into the #4 piston and the rings were almost gone. make sure to check all oil clearences and end play of the crankshaft. also do all the nessicary measurments of the crankshaft lobes.

Oh my...I put a prybar between the journal and its got about 1mm of endplay. wtf this is an automatic built in march of 1994, it shouldn't crankwalk

If you dont have a balance shaft elimenator kit on it could be one of your balance shaft bearings.My friend had the same thing happen to his eclipse and the bearing was almost fused to the block it was so torn up.He also stopped hearing the noise at over 2500rpm's cause the oil coats the bearing in higher rpm's and muffles the noise.Hope i helped a little .
