Hey guys I'm having a problem removing my passenger side half shaft on a 2g awd. I'm having trouble getting it out of the hub. I was told use some PB Blaster and a hammer for that. Yeah that's not getting me anywhere LOL. And the second part of the problem is the piece going into the tranny. I've been told just to yank on that with some locking pliers and wedging it out with a pry bar would work. I've attached a couple of pics for you guys to look at. Try to take it easy on me. I haven't really done any major work on these yet.

2nd pic is the part of the half shaft stuck in the hub.

1st pic is the part stuck in the tranny.

For the part that is stuck inside the transmission you can just get a big screw driver or some type of pry bar and yank it out.
For the mushroomed threads, use a file or grinder to get the flat spot down so you can pull it through. I had to pull the hub and press out a guys half shaft cause it was rusted in.
Next time you have an issue pushing the HS through the hub, take the castle nut and put it on backwards untill it is flush with the HS, then hammer away, that way you don't crush the threads.
You might want to replace all those studs while your at it.

chop or grind that mushroom off and use a puller like this

I use an impact gut to tighten that puppy up and slide out the axle. you won't even break a sweat!

Soak that bi*** in pb blast a couple of days, or heat up the wheel hub. I dont suggest heating it much. Just a bit to break it loose.

Your also gonna have to grind that mushroom off. That is the worst case of mushroom I have ever seen. What were you beating on it with?

Easy way (I can change em in about 15 minutes (actual time). Pry bar inside piece (carefully). And on the outside, if you have access, an air hammer. The pointy end on an air hammer fits perfect in the little indention in the end of an axle. Total job -- loosen outer tie rod, lower ball joint, move out of the way. Out with the old, in with the new, no alteration to alignment.

yeah i would use a pry bar and hammer to get it off the trans side dont be too rough with it tho. and ull deff need too grind that mushroom off and i use a dead blow hammer to hit the axle out of the hub that way no mushrooming or the castle nut trick mentioned earlier

Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry I haven't gotten back on to update. I've been busy with work. The car is an hour away right now so everything is still stuck on there, but I'll be working on it today some. Would I be able to rent a puller like that? As for the studs I have some new one going on. Oh and thanks luv2rallye. I've been looking over that thread for a bit now. I'll let you guys know how things turn out later this evening.

Call tool rental places that rent automotive/truck tools. Find a place that has the CTA4320 1" screw puller (for trucks). Don't waste time with smaller (normal car size) hub pullers. If it's really stuck/rusted on there, which they usually are, you will break the smaller normal sized one (I did). And if even the puller doesn't work, you'll have to remove the entire knuckle arm/hub assembly and have it pressed out at a machine shop. But first you will have to get rid of the mushroom so it will slide thru the hub when it breaks free.
Tip for getting axel out of tranny: Put screwdrivers or pry bars on each side (180 apart) of cv joint housing and pull together. Just doing one side at a time usually doesn't work.
Oh and BTW, this whole thing is going to take WAY longer than 15 minutes! ROFL

I had the same problem with my car. The half shaft was stuck in the hub. Tried everything to get it out including taking it to a shop to have it pressed out. Nothing worked for me. My suggestion is to get another knuckle from a junkyard.

Had the same problem. I took the spindles off the car and made a stand to try getting some good hits on it, didn't work and was going to take it to my dads work to try pressing it out so I took a grinder to the mushrooms head. After i got them all ground down i figured I'd give it a few more blows and what do you know they came free. I'm pretty sure grinding on it loosed the splines up.
