half moon seal/gasket leaking

why buy it? i heard the 420a aluminum half moon fits the 4g63 great. just go to a junk yard and pocket one.

That's an option as well (I don't condone stealing) but the last thing I would do would be to RTV something that's not meant to be RTV'd.

Its silicone, not like its gonna hurt anything. and ask any dsmer here thats built a 4g63 they have done it. also your supposed to (well not mandatory) rtv the corners of the VC and bolt holes to ensure no leaks.

im not being a ass to you im just saying its safe to rtv it, just apply a thin layer and let cure.

I never said it would hurt anything I just don't have any on my engine and it's not needed if you just replace the gasket. It's a good idea to replace parts with better parts when needed.
 
The factory service manual calls for a light coating of RTV be used on the round of the half moon. There is absolutely no issue using it there as long as you don't overdo it. Even with brand new gaskets I had a leak there without RTV.
