I have a 98 GSX and just recently had the A/C fixed at a shop. (compressor, etc) After getting it back and driving it for a few weeks, it started making this weird noise.

It comes from under the dash, on the passenger side. I'm pretty sure there is something under there that has to do with the A/C, the expansion valve or something?

Anyways, it makes this really high pictched squeeling sound, like it is venting pressor or something? It makes that noise every few minutes, and the noise lastes for about 5 seconds, sometimes a little longer.

If I hit the A/C button to turn off the compressor, the sounds stops immediately.

Does anyone know what this could be? I wanted to be a little more informed about this problem before I take it back to the shop. That way I can play dumb and see if they really take care of it.

Thanks,
Sean

Like the blower fan? No. If you leave the fan on and turn off the compressor, the noise stops.

It is not a constant noise

It sounds like it bleeds pressure off every 3 - 5 minutes or so, only lasts a few seconds.

That is your best bet. Take it back and show them the noise. Since they did the work it's all under warrenty. Even if they try to chrage you again.

refrigerant expanding into the evaporator sounds the best so far...

But it never did it before the old compressor went out and this shop fixed it...
