I just hacked my MAS and it idles like crap. I can WOT the car and it will just chill for a few seconds and then it goes... I really wish this had not been a part of the Free Mods listed on this site, since the only difference I can see with absolute certainty is that it has made things more difficult for me... :notgood:

Is there anywhere I can get the honey combs? Any other fix for this?

Thanks...

:dsm:

I had this same problem when I hacked my MAS. I kept my honeycombs though. I put everything back in and put it all back to normal. It runs fine now. I will not try to hack my MAS again. Eventually, I am going MAFT or ECMlink v3 (when it comes out) and run a GM MAS.

:dsm:
Did you wreck your honeycombs or loose them? You should be able to remove them and put them back in without damaging anything. Removing them is something you need to tune for because it will lean out lower airflows a lot more than it will higher airflows; it basically messes up your fuel trims.

Lol. Yeah those bad boys are gone... So there is no substitute for the honeycombs?

I forgot to menthion that this is for my stock 96 GST. When I did this mod to my 99 GST it was fine because I have DSM link on it! GRRR!

:DTape a whole bunch of coffee stirrers together, then cut to size!:thumb:

Seriously though, try to find a used one at a junk yard or on ebay and just swap it out. That would be the easiest way to solve your situation.

^ Exactly, I have never seen anyone come back after doing the free mod saying that it helped them out and nothing went wrong its always problem after problem.

Mine worked just fine after, a little idle surge when warming up but besides that no problems. I do have a 1g though too. Probably makes a big difference.

You should make reading part of your upgrade path. This is a "free mod" for 1g cars with some ability to compensate.

2g MAFs have gone 10s. An unhacked one would be fine for you for some time to come.

I know 2g MAF's have gone 10's. Your reply was useless and completely unhelpful. I expected more from someone with your experience...

Mcmaster car had honeycomb material. The cells are maybe 2 times bigger though and how you would cut it would be interesting. Why did you not save the honeycombs? DSMLink also has MAF compensation airflow sliders that will compensate for the disproportionate difference in airflow at idle and low rpms due to the MAF honeycomb removal.

I agree, junkyard MAF is the way to go.

And I'm sure we all expected you to read properly. But hey sometimes expectations can't be met.

If you look under the MAS, there's a little plug. Remove the silicone and there should be a screw. Try adjusting it. It'll lean or richen up the car. Have fun. Hope you read it right.

Thanks, I'll look into that...

Can i run 2g maf instead of 1g maf with stock ecu ? i mean that i dont want to use dsmlink , safc or something like them , then is 2g maf runs without any problem on 1g ?

thanks

^^^Well you shouldn't steal peoples threads and also this has been covered HUNDREDS of times. If you have 550's in jectors it'll run fine with no tuning. Otherwise you need to compensate. Also you shouldnt remove honeycombs on a 2g mas because this is what happens.

OP:
Not to be an ass or anything but there has to be a reason you did what you did.
Why did you hack a 2g MAS?
Were you having problems with fuel cut or something?

To correct it:

Remove and replace with a known good one.
Go with GM MAFT.
Full Standalone w/ Speed Density
Un"Hack" it with known good parts.

PM SENT...

I was merely attempting to gain some free HP on my daily driver stock GST

I've already gone through all this on my other eclipse, I really don't want to start another obsession with upgrading! Thanks for the help! :thumb:

Many people sell their used MAS on ebay to get rid of them. Half the time they won't work and will give you engine light codes, but that doesn't matter, because you only need the honeycombs from inside them. I know I used to see used MAF on ebay for 40$ and below before the summer when I needed a new one. Just throwing up another option for you  As for the person who asked the question about using a 2g MAF on a 1g car, yes you can. I do it and get much better results power wise. I didn't know you needed bigger injectors, but that didn't apply to me because I already had them.

IF you can find one. I have a 1G and they are scarce in the junk yards in Tampa.

To OP, I feel ya on the hacked MAS situation, I agree with you it should be removed from the list, even if it is for 1G's. I wanted to do it on my car as a "stage 0" free mod, but all I hear is people having trouble with it, UNLESS you have a way to compensate for it, which in my opinion having something to compensate is not stage 0. I think the hacked MAF should be listed in stage 1, when you are at least capable of outflowing it. I can just imagine all the newbs that do it and then cause a bunch of problems from the start.
