I have a motor out of a 98 gsx in my 97 gst, obviously I still use my gst tranny. Im about to do a clutch and flywheel job and I have a gsx aluminium fidanza flywheel sitting around that I would need to replace the top plate on it. But can I run a GSX flywheel on a GST tranny? I read somewhere or another that the bell housings on the gsx tranny is slightly bigger. So does that mean that the flywheel would be slightly bigger? I just dont want to chance it bc when I put the gsx motor in the car there was a few things that was slightly different. Like the starter bolt plate holes are offset differently on the gsx motor.

The car wont work bro. Even the smallest difference make a big change

The AWD flywheel is about 1/2" smaller in diameter then the FWD is. Like said Above, your started will not engage. It just wont work period. But you could try to find someone with an AWD drive that would trade you for a FWD one

I read somewhere:
FWD with AWD flywheel - the starter wont engage
AWD with FWD flywheel - the teeth hit the bell housing

they both would work if they had the same bell housing, thats why they wont interchange.

Incorrect.

Although I'm sure there are slight differences in the bell housings due to the AWD to FWD difference, Where they bolt to the block is exactly the same. If one were bigger than the other, they would have different bolt holes, for the transmission to bolt up to. That is not the case here. Both AWD and FWD use the same holes to bolt the bell housing to the motor. The Diameter of the flywheel is the reason they can not interchange. The AWD flywheel is smaller in diameter than the FWD Flywheel by about 1/2". The reason it is smaller is to make room for the transfer case input shaft. The AWD flywheel is approx 10 1/2" across and the FWD is approx 11" across.

Technically it is correct information and I did not want to repeat what you typed above in your first post, but since you brought it up ;) or should i have said "another reason they wont interchange" shhesh...

im putting a 95 gsx motor in my 95 gst,, ive read all the above post but my issue is that i can get 4 of the flywheel bots out -- the PO must of tightened the shit out of them,,

so my question is can i keep that gsx flywheel on the motor going into my gst?

looking above it seems that the diameter of the gsx flywheel is shorter and my problem would be that the starter wouldnt engage,, but what if i use the gsx starter that came with the motor???? will that work???
