gst sounds like a wrx. misfires.. ### help

hello. i just got a 98 gst with a 16g turbo. it was super good last night and the it got to 17 degrees and i started my car to it idleing like crap and then i take off and it sounds like a wrx misfireing badly shaking the whole car. i put new plugs in and nothing changed. i sprayed the wires with water at night to see if they were bad and they didnt jump spark at all. what i did notice is if i take the #1 wire off its sparking but it doesnt drop rpms like the other three cylinders do. ### help i wanna get back to boostin.. thanks brian

sounds as if number one cyc isnt firing at all.

Remove you spark plug and check to see if its any good.( like damaged)

yeah i just put the plugs in there today and its still doing it. #1 was black and the other three were good. so idk what it could be. im stumped and so are some other ppl

Check your plug to the coil, check the spark plug wires again(hope they are not the cheap plastic ones, they like to break), and check your plugs to your injectors, one could of came loose. Just asking you did check the gap on the spark plugs. If the wires are the cheap ones they like to have the crimp piece to the plug move up and not touch the plug at all. They do this when you pull the spark plug wires up.

dsmpat has it right. Whenever a DSM starts sounding like a subaru, more than likely a cylinder or set of cylinders have stopped firing. If it is your #1, start with what Pat suggested.

-Spark plug
-Spark plug wire
-Spark plug and wire are seated correctly
-Ignition coil pack is connected and working
Remove all 4 plugs and look into the coils, you'll see the brass plating in the back of the coils. Take an ohm meter and put the pins against each set of coils (2&3 and 1&4) and make sure there is ~30k ohms between each set of coils. If not close to this, your coil pack has gone bad
-Check that your resistor pack (located behind the coil pack some, it's a big flat plug with about 9 or so pins) is plugged and seated correctly.
-Check along the fire wall that this roughtly 2x4" silver box with white loom is plugged in (that's your injector box)

right on guys thanks for your help. the other day i pulled the injector wire off one and it did nothing. so i switched the #1 and #2 injector and now it runs almost perfect. it idles rough when i come to a stop for about 5 seconds then it idles fine. also sometimes it seems like it power surges. so im assuming i need to replace that injector. another thing thats weird is the boost is at 8 lbs and when i boost to 8 and it stays for a couple seconds the engine will rev up a lil bit. is that boost fall off? im new to this car..thanks guys

My buddies car just has this same exact problem, sounded like a wrx. What we found was the fuel line to the rail was kinked and some small boost leaks of course.
