This is what I encountered with my 1g clutch system and how I fixed it.

My problem started when my timing belt got chewed up somehow. I bought a used engine local to me. I swapped out the engines and car ran, but i had a horrible grinding noise everytime I pushed in the clutch pedal.

I know I did everything right using the right torque to bolts and loctite the bolts also. I used the ebay Throw out bearing that I received with my ebay clutch. I used the old TOB clip and installed it. The only thing I can think of was that in my haste to finish the job, I may have installed that clip wrong. I did not think of this until after I encountered the noise.

Here are some pics of the damage:

I ahve to resize pics so I will do it after class. Edit coming in about an hour or so.

Edit done , Here are the pics:

Sorry, it is unclear; you did, in fact, put the clip on incorrectly?

How did you have it on there? It looks like the clip was rubbing on the fingers. Did the clip break? Was it bent up? How did you reposition it?

The clip came off somehow. how I fixed it was to replace the old TOB and clip at once. This solved the issue. Mine was somehow missing the TOB clip so the TOB was just running rampant inside my bellhousing. As the pictures show, this caused very dramatic wear on the contact point of the fork and TOB, and also on the fingers of the PP.

The main objective of this thread is to help others who mightexperience the same symptoms as I did and how I fixed it :)

I didn't think you could install the clip wrong LOL. It could possibly be because of the ebay TOB i know most haven't had very much luck with that thing.

Ya but this is to hopefully help others of they are encountering the same symptoms
