I was racing a mustang we were both doing around 115 all of a sudden car just spiked all of my power cut out and a loud rattling/grinding noise started car only drives in first and second I think it's one of the diffs but I can't be sure car still runs oil pressure is good nothing extra coming out of my car besides an angry me any ideas guys?

i can put it into to gear for first second and reverse the rattling stopped last i checked right now its on the side of the highway with no way home til tomorrow i just had the trans rebuilt by english probably 8k ago i dont have the paper on hand i forgot to mention when i try to put it in 3rd 4th or 5th and start to depress the clutch the engine acts like its under heavy load and starts to bog down and acts almost like im pressing the brake at the same time

Sounds to me like maybe 5th gear didn't get enough oil and dropped down locking up the transmission.

It sounds to me like the syncros in your transmission may be going out...I know you said it was just rebuilt 8 k ago but if first second and reverse work but 3rd 4th and 5th don't then there is a problem with that shaft..it may not be the syncros it could be a shift fork as well but it definitely sounds like a transmission problem

You will need to take the transmission out of the car and take off the gear box bolts...the part that connects to the bell housing will come off and you will be able to see the shafts of the transmissions...first second and reverse gears should be on the same shaft, third fourth and fifth on the other shaft. Look at the shift forks and where they are placed on the first shaft and how they are on the second. I can't say for sure but there should be an obvious problem with one or more of them on the second shaft

It sounds broken. Just pop the transmission out and see if English wants to open it up first, or let you open it up. Either way it needs to be opened up. From what you're describing, it could easily be a broken shift fork.

Sounds like they aren't going to cover it so anybody want to recommend a place to get it rebuilt? Would a shep stage one be ok or should i just go get a normal rebuild from some random shop?
