Greddy Type S BOV questons

I just bought and installed a greddy type S BOV on my 96 gst. It came with very minimal directions and acutally some of the directions were in japanese! My first problem is that when i go to let it blow it kind of sputters and doesnt make the spiiisshhhh noise till the very end. I thought it made the spiiisssshhhh noise only! I was wondering if that was normal or how i correct it because i really dont like the noise that it is making right now. Also i have a boost controller and can adjust my boost. But according to my autometer boost gauge it is boosting about 12 psi in first and about 15 psi in second and a little bit more very gear. How do i correct this so i can have it boosting at 15 psi all of the time. Thanks for the help!
 
hook up the bottom nipple on the bov with the same source for the top nipple. How tight did you screw it in(the top stud/bolt)? lossen it to about half way. Good luck

WTF!!?? Don't do that! The top larger nipple is for a vacume source (after the throttle body), the lower small nipple is for a boost source if you decide to use it. If you don't use it, just leave it upcapped.

Have you tried adjusting it using the stud on top?
 
Ok every person with any knowlege recomended connecting the lower nipple to a boost source, not both to the same vac source. Learn to read before giving bad advice you tool. If you connect both to a vac source, you have vacume pulling on one side of the diaphram.... and vacume pulling on the other side of the diaphram. You're gonna get really far doing that huh :rolleyes:
 
hmmm any vacuum source is also going to be a boost source :rolleyes:

edit I forgot except the evap canister..but what kinda "tool" is going to source thier bov from that :|

Do these guys a favor and stop giving advice. Is the intake manifold a boost source after the throttle body closes or does it turn into vacume source the instand the butterfly closes??? Wow...
 
I just instaled the Greddy Type-S today too, and mine sounds like crap, unless I am venting, which I am doing now, cause I had to run out. I hooked it up, and I get a really loud whistle out of it, it is not the turbo I hear whistling, it is a different sound, almost like a really big leak and it makes no fluttering sound at all, sounds like I am running over a small animal everytime I shift... any advice?(wow I am sorry if I hyjacked your thred, but it about the same subject, so maybe it is ok??)

PS: if everything else wasnt a vacuum source then where is the engine getting air?? When the "butterfly" or throttle plate closes all the ic pipes and ic are in vacuum to, meaning the cylinders are sucking air in. Before you call me names learn how to spell and how a car works. thank you
 
Ive had my greddy type s for 3 years now. Most of those years I went vented. The past 6 months Im re circulated and loving it. No jerky shifts, not running rich between shifts, reg idle etc etc. Yes the vented sounds nice, but everyone nowadays has a BOV. Why not let the turbo do the whistling? I notice my car is alot happyer with my BOV circulated and shifting thru the gears I NEVER DROP BOOST or feel the lag :thumb:

Ok I won't act like an asshole but what is so hard about this? Do you know the point of a blow off valve?? These things don't exist just do you can have a cool sound when you shift, they exist so pressure can be released from the charge pipes before it has a change to run backwards through the turbo compresser and cause damage.
That being said, When you're on the gas and are boosting whatever amount there is a positive pressure in your IC pipes, intercooler, intake manifold, and engine. You're boosting... wow fun. Time to shift, so you take your foot off the gas peddle and the throttle body closes, now at that instant the pressure created by that turbo is blocked between the throttle body and the compresser housing and the intake manifold and engine aren't seeing any of that boost. Anything after the throttle body is now seeing vacume because the engine is still turning over and trying to pull air in.
Now on to the Type S. There's a diaphram inside directly connected to the plate/obstruction that keeps the pressurized air in the charge pipes during boosting conditions. When a vacume source is applied to the far side of that diaphram it pulls the valve open and lets the pressure in the charge pipes out. That's the cool sound you hear. The small nipple comes into play because it uses the pressure in the intercooler pipe waiting to get out after the throttle body closes. It uses that pressure to push on the opposite side of that diaphram while the vacume source from the intake manifold pulls on the other. If you have vacume pulling on both sides, how far are you going to get?

If you need me to even more in depth, I'll try. If it really offends you that I don't proof read after flying though these posts, get over it. :rolleyes:
 
we are not talking about how a bov works, you stated that I was wrong about any boost source is a vacuum source as well. As soon as you explain why that is untrue then we can continue. Basic engine 101 learn it then come back so we can talk. No hard fellings, Thank and have good day

Read it a few times so it sinks in.
Before throttle plate = boost, after throttle plate = vacume

It sure sound like you might want to try taking an introductory automotive class before you go bashing them. I took it about 4 years ago at a state college for a prereq and it was helpful. Maybe they don't offer that in your high school though, sorry. :rolleyes:
 
ok so your saying that that when you boost and let off the throttle that there is only vacuumin the manifold and boost everywhere else?, yes its spelled vacuum, That is what you are saying and you are wrong. when ever there is boost present in the ic pipes there is boost in the manifold, whenever there is vacuum in the manifold there is vacuum in the intake track. There is never a time(other then the split second before the bov dumps will there be boost on one side and vacuum on the other(I would say like .0001 seconds). Once you let off the throttle the boost goes to the atmosphere or intake pipe if low throttle or no throttle is present the air gets sucked to the engine and vacuum is restore to the ic track. If there wasnt any vacuum in that part the engine wouldnt run, when the pistons are in the intake stroke they create vaccum(most when throttle plate is closed) they suck in air through the intake, through the ic system creating vacuum. When you boost and let off the throttle vacuum pulls the valve open letting excess air out. That is what Im saying, I have been saying this from the beginning. I also have my bov setup from the EXACT same source for both nipples and I get no flutter, surge and I hold all my boost. Now are we clear? Happy...good I am now done.

This was my point the entire time, what else would you be talking about that concerns the operation of a cbv? Ok now read this a few times. You're an idiot.
 
Ok OK you arent reading my psots at all. I am saying it doesnt matter if you source your bov at the same source and you are off in la la land. I wanst talking about how a bov works, I knwo how they work but you just arent under standing my posts. I hope to god a mod sees this and shuts it down :thumbdown

I hope a mod sees this and shuts you down. You're stuck in newb land and refuse to learn anything or admit when you're wrong. I'm done, I hope you've learned something.
 
So let me understand this right cause i just got mine too. top nipple is for vacume aka after the throttle body and bottom is for boost source? thats the way that makes the moost sence to me
 
Yep, that's how it works. I had to readjust the stud on the top after hooking up the lower nipple though because the boost source hitting the bottom of the diaphram would push the valve open and my boost would bleed off. Just something to think about :thumb:

You can either leave the smaller nipple unconnected or connect anywhere between the turbo and the throttle body. I've never owned a 1G so I don't know what's availible as a boost source. You can always get the fitting you need for that sized hose from home depot and drill/tap your own into a hard pipe. Maybe a 1G owner can recommend a boost source...
