I just installed my Greddy Type-S Blow Off Valve.

One Problem.

What in the world do I connect this to?

I tried to follow this link, Installing a Greddy Type S BOV in a DSM Eclipse/Talon/Laser, but when it got to "The smaller nipple on the cast aluminum body of the B.O.V may be spliced into the turbo outlet pipe or into the line between the turbo and wastegate actuator. Use the T-connector supplied. This connects to pressure even when the other line has vacuum. This will activate the B.O.V faster by applying pressure under the valve seat."

Never in my life have I heard terms like that before. I have a Turbo XS Manual Boost Controller and it is attached to the nipple on the internal wastegate on the turbo itself.

So where on earth am I supposed to "splice" it to!?!!???!

I was sad... I was hoping it would sound like bov.flv video by jm1080 - Photobucket but you can't hear anything! I don't want a valve that is over the top loud, I just wanted it to make enough sound for it to be noticeable, like in the video I posted. Yes, me saying that "I WANT MY BLOW OFF VALVE TO BE LOUD!" makes me sound like a "ricer"... BUT I DON'T CARE!

Thanks for any help provided in advance!

Also, I tried this

But when I hooked it up, you couldn't hear a thing.

Then I tried to take one spring out, still couldn't hear anything.

I've checked the diaphragm, and there is no rips or tears anywhere. it's like brand new. I am running recirculated, just like the person is that I gave the link to the video in.

I was following this thread, but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/291611-greddy-type-s-problem-please-read.html.

I just put the two springs back in, with the lower nipple still connected to a boost line. Still nothing. In the link that I posted above to that video, that guy is running the Type-S recirculated setup and he still has the signature Type-S whistle. Mine literally makes ZERO sound. Not a peep. Almost like it's not opening. I have the adjustment screw set REALLY REALLY soft as well.

I have the same BOV I do not use the smaller nipple. As for the sound I dont know what to tell you even when mine was rec. I could still hear it? Try taking off the second vaccum line see if that helps?

I had a similar problem with the sound not being there. I just kept driving it and eventually it warmed up to the car. Its been a week now and I can hear it with the windows up and the music playing low. :hellyeah:

Mine is recirculated too

You know what sound I'm talking about right? I also thought that at lower RPM's you'd be able to hear it. With mine, you just can't hear anything. Only when I step into high boost, you can really hear the signature Type-S sound and I DO NOT drive WOT everywhere I go. I usually shift at 3000-3200 rpm's. I want to be able to hear the sound somewhat.

Also, I just drove around a little bit and I took off the hose I had connected up to the lower nipple on the blow off valve.

I can't see how it could be "broken in" It's just a spring and a diaphragm. As someone else said don't connect anything to the lower nipple. Do you have stock intercooler piping and a stock intake? What did you use to recirc the bov? These can all have a big impact on how loud the bov is.

I have SS Intercooler Piping and I use the stock 2G Recirculation tube. The intake is aftermarket as well, I just do no know what supplier it came from as it was on the car before I bought it almost two years ago.

Is it possible you aren't hitting enough boost to hear it well at 3K?

Probably not. I have an Evo III 16g Turbo BUT, I thought that with this valve even at lower rpms with like 10 vac to 1psi, it'd still blow off.

Mine whistles even when I let off in -10inch/lb of vacuum, and it is recirculated and only the top hose hooked up.

See! :sneaky:

Like I said, I checked the diaphragm and it looked brand new. I bought the valve from a guy in North Carolina (good guy) the valve was really well taken care of and use for only awhile I was told. It's almost like new! As the car sits right now, there are BOTH springs it in, the hose is off the bottom nipple and there is only a hose connected to the top nipple to the intake manifold. The adjustment screw is VERY VERY light. Still nothing... :sosad:

I think the reason this valve makeS A "WHISTLE" soud is becuase the valve only opens a little bit and the air whistles through the small opening.
So maybe with the adjustment screw all the way out the valve is opening alot and the air wont whistle if it it wide open. So try tightening it a little and see if that changes it.

Ive got a Type-S and you don't hear much when your in like the 1-5 range but above that its pretty loud. At the 1-5 range it sounds more like a whistle.

If the screw is all the way loose, then you need to tighten in down. Adjust it as needed until you have no more compressor surge.

I just drove it around.

Before I even touched anything, it seemed like it was surging. As I tightened the screw, it got worse and worse.

When I opened the valve up, and took the diaphragm out, the hole on the flange didn't really line up with the hole on the blow off valve like where it seals. Would this have ANYTHING to do with function? I took a drill to my flange and now I have it perfectly lined up.

You are supposed to tighten it, then loosen it till you dont have compressor surge anymore. Is that what you did?

No. I started with the adjustable screw pretty much all the way out. It just didn't seem right. So I tightened it, tightened it, tightened it... it just got worse.

Would the intake or filter have anything to do with this?

Are you sure its compressor surge, When I had the bottom nipple plugged on my greddy, it fluttered horriblly. Try unhooking the bottom nipple and leaving it open.

Right now. The blow off valve is only hooked to the hose that goes to the intake manifold. The bottom nipple is left open.

I guess the concept is just to complicated for me to use. ROFL

Yea, I thought the same thing, it was a pain in the butt to adjust. Once done though it works good, I still get a little surge in the lower boost range, but 7+ surge is gone. From what I read you don't always get the surge out of the lower areas.

Either way... to me... It's not working like I thought it would. Either that, or I have no idea what I'm doing with it. When I drove home from work a few minutes ago, it made not a peep. All I could hear was exhaust, etc...

I have no idea what to do with it. :(

Does anyone know what I'm not doing right? How do I make the valve work correctly and get the sound I want out of it?
