Grand National turbo on a DSM

So has anyone done it or heard of it being done? I have access to a great deal on a 1986 Grand National turbo (Garrett, I think it's a T3) and the exhaust flange is different, but I was wondering if it's worth going through the trouble of getting it to fit or just not mess with it. And does anyone know if it is a T3 or what?

how are your going to get it to bolt on?

buy and aftermarket exhaust manifold and o2 housing?

sounds like to much work to be worth it to me...

how much is it selling for?

I'm not sure how I'm going to bolt it on, that's why I am asking for advice. I can pick it up for $100. He let me take it home so I can check it out and see if I think it's worth messing with.

Well if its a t3 exhaust housing, you will need an exhaust manifold with the t3 flange on it as well as a new o2 housing that bolts up to it.

On a side note, Grand Nationals are pretty old, how is the condition of the turbo? For $100 you could pick up a 14b and have that be a pretty potent bolt-on. Not trying to sway your decision, just makin sure you know the alternatives.

Garbage turbo.Probably shot anyway.Turbo's in the mid-eighties aren't quite what they are today.If you wanna go budget, buy a 14b

the exaust A/r will be larger, its going to lag. IMO not worth your time. buy a 20g =)

Thanks for your help guys. While the '86 turbo is the first year they were good ('85 and earlier suck), and it's in good condition, you have good points. I guess it would be easier to get a 14b or something and bolt it right up.

I wasn't looking forward to the headaches involved with making the GN turbo work, but if you guys thought it was a killer deal, then I would consider doing it. I think I'll just bring it back and tell him "no thanks."
