I bought a 99 eclipse gsx. It has 151000 miles on it. What needs to be checked on this car with this amount of miles. I also noticed a slight clunk in the front end like loose tension rods. And there is an ever so slight hesitation at wot. Could be spark plugs maybe. Mainly I just need to know what general mantainance needs to be done like trans and transfer case fluid change stuff like that.

Full OEM timing belt change, full fuild change (Engine, tranny, xfer case, rear diff, coolant), plugs (NGK BPR6ES), wires, accessory belts, CELs, boost leak test. Do those along with anything else you would do to a new used car.

Welcome to the site.

Do you know when/if the timing belt was replaced last? This would be one of the first things I would check, seeing if it snaps you're screwed. Also check your timing make sure everything there is good. Change all your fluids radiator, oil ect.. The spark plugs/wires would be a good thing to replace also.

Don't think you can really post a better answer than this, but def. post pics!

Add compression test to that! Should be pretty good after all those things are taken care of as long as the compression test turns out good! :thumb:

Nice pick up. I bought my 99 with 178,3xx last July. It has 207,7xx on it now. So if it's been taken care of, the car should have a lot of life left. Is it a 5 speed or auto? Pics too! Do all needed maintenance as others have stated and make sure the car is running properly before doing any mods.

Timing belt, balance shaft belt, all the tensioners and pulleys, drive belts, change all the fluids, air filter, pcv valve, fuel filter, thermostat, spark plugs, ignition wires, check out the brakes, maybe throw on some new brake pads and rotors, fix any leaks if it has them, clean the MAF, check out the suspension components and fix any problems there. If you're getting a clunk in the suspension in the front end, it could be worn out bushings in your compression arms or lateral arms. And fix any other problem you can find. Look for cracking or damaged vacuum lines and coolant lines. Just go over the car thoroughly and cover all bases.

Wow I must say you guys are great on this forum. Tons of great info and quick. Ill get some pics asap. It has the tan leather interior. Its that burnt purple looking color.

Just remember some of the sites posted may have some older information on them. Its always ok to ask if this is currently the best way do something to avoid paying for stuff then realize there are newer was to accomplish it better.

Yea I think they pretty much covered everything LOL.. I would definitely change all the fluids, including the transfer case, rear diff and tranny like you metioned.

Also read through this whole forum, very usful. If you want to get ahead of the game when your done with all the maintenance, build yourself a boost leak tester and make sure to fix ALL the leaks. You can spray the couplers with soapy water to help spot the leaks.

Don't want to overwhelm you LOL.. VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions shows you how to build the boost leak tester and has a bunch of other good info. Good luck!:thumb:

Yeah I have buitl boost leak testers. I aquired this car by trading a 96 rb20 240sx full suspension kouki front conversion. But it gets so hot down here I had to get something with ac. One thing I noticed last night when I turn the engiine off. I here a little faint clank in it. Also I found an invoice in there that dated back to feb 2010. said they had a clutch assembly clutch master and slave cylnder installed. Then looks like hub and sleeve 3 and 4th, 3 and 4th shift rail, 3 and 4th shift fork, 3 gear sync ring and a 3rd gear installed. labor was, r&r repair transmission r&r clutch master clynder and they got a tow. All costing 1951.11. Done by Estes Garage. What do you all make of that. Gonna start with plugs and wires this weekend and do a compression check. Hopefully thats what that slight hesitation in it is. And gonna clean maf

Or you can just buy a boost leak tester from here! I bought one of these and 3 more couplers to adapt to most everything I should need...until now. Never thought I would own a turbo car with an inlet smaller than 2.5". LOL

Here is a quick pic. Ill get some more this weekend.

Finally got a Saturday off so I'll be checking for boost leaks plus everything else I read about in the bogging threads. Then got to try and see what's making that clunking in the front. Seems to do it more when running over small ripple like bumps. Big bumps don't affect it much.

Nice car man, any mods done to it?

Good call on trading the rb20, For the hesitation I would say check for boost leaks and deff plugs, you never know how old they could be. Although it seems as if the previous owner kept the car in pretty good condition, 2 grand on tranny stuff, pheww
