Last month I blew my ps belt and alt belt after 1000 miles of driving. the car was towed to my friends house and I flew back home so I havent been able to see it since.

My buddy who has the car has checked if the water pump seized, he told me the water pump pulley will spin but it takes a small amount of force to turn it. That sounds normal to me, is it? I just need to know so I know to buy a water pump too.

I think the belts just couldn't take 1000 miles of almost non stop driving and broke.

Yep since your there cheap insurance and the whole timing kit look at vendors here for kits and packages you will find them, thats it. Replace it all since your there, and your good to go, start looking for parts.

Sorry couldnt quite understand you. I have a new timing belt less than 5k old and all that. I was just wondering if the water pump should have some soft tension behind it when you try spinning it.

replace it regardless, no better time then the present, and its only an extra $40-50

I was planning that I will have limited tools to even replace belts so I was just wondering if this thing will even drive. My friend has idled the car for about a minute every other day to keep oil circulated and he said it sounds fine, and idles smooth just need to know if it will make it to my buddies shop with new belts

No it should spin freely thats why i was saying to replace it, it sounds bad, replace it when your unsure of how good it is, also did you change the belt only, if not other issues could cause you problems down the road. The belt should last thousands of miles, 1000 miles something else sound wrong, so change the pump, and the other things if you didnt, better safe than sorry i learned the hard, when my tb slipped due to bad pulleys, and a bad tensioner i live and learn.

As long as its not overheating and depending how far, it might it might now youll have to decide, tow it, or chance it to your friend shop.

I had some grammar issues there, tow it to be safe.

So a good water pump should have NO tension at all? It should just free spin without a hitch? hmmm

Also I was saying the timing belt is new not that it broke after 1000 miles. The engine is only 40k miles old all the timing parts were replaced together last month.

Ok mine spins ok not how much tension you mean is the car oveheating? Why do you want to change it, change the belt, the pump will leak if its bad, is it leaking? Sounds like your tension on the belt is wrong, if it broke.

It didnt overheat til the belt snapped after driving 1000 miles. I dont think you understand. Car ran fine, alt belt may have been old and it just snapped i turned car off immediately so no damage was done. It still drives fine and runs fine just cant run it for long periods of time til belts are replaced. I am not near the car so I dont know how the water pump looks or feels. My friend said the water pump pulley will spin its not seized but there is mild tension behind it which sounds normal, I am just double checking.

It seems fine then, keep driving it and see what happens, it should be ok, i guess thats all i can say if it drives fine i would leave it alone.
