Well my motor is about gone. 157 thousand miles with everything stock and it finally started using oil about ten thousand ago. Now it's going through about a quart and a half a week. I have another block with forged rods new water pump and oil pump, balance shaft delet, and was fully rebuilt and never cranked. Sliped time and the valves met the brand new forged pistons before it ever turned all the way over. I need a new set of pistons for it but I want to know what would be a good set to go with considering theprevious build. I'm only looking for around 450 to 500 down the road so I don't really want to splurge for forged unless it is realy needed for that nuber. Thanks in advance.
 
whats wrong with the pistons that are in it.... most likly you can file and dremel out any gouges that would be there..

personally i have a n/t shortblock in my car that had a timing belt break before i got it. the pistons had nicks in them , i clened them up and hve been running it for about 2 years and 20k miles no problems with 17psi
 
Honestly the ones that are in it would probably be ok... I'm just really paranoid about grinding on the pistons. I'll try to get some pics of the ones that are in the block later on today and get them posted to see what you guys think about reusing them. Thanks
 
Down where you are why dont you get some one from one of the NASCAR shops to take a look at it?

Unless it broke off a valve and stuck into the piston the odds of surviving is high.
 
What would I need to be warrie of if I decide to use those pistons? Just smoothe the rough edges and don't worry about the indentions or would I need to actually smooth the whole surface to a level top like on a new piston. I guess what I'm saying is would it be ok to just smooth out the ridges and let it fly as is without even tearing it back down? I Don't think the dents are too deep just some rough edges that worrie me. Hot Spots is the thought that I'm getting.
 
The pistons stock come with 4 valve relifes cut into the piston on the intahe side about 1/2" long and on the exhaust about 1/4".
 
Pull the two pistons, If the ring lands have not locked the rings in place smooth out the divots (don't know a better term) and put it back together. If they are find out who made the pistons and get 2 replacements.
