a friend of mine has a 93 tsi awd with 100k miles on it. IT'S MINT. the body is in great shape. the interior is perfect. the car is all stock. nothing done to it. only problem is that it's an auto. the a/c works. cruise works. it has a strange problem though... the oil pressure guage works on and off. sometimes it doesn't work but sometimes when you crank it up it works. the other problem is that every now and then it acts like it doesn't want to idle and you have to reset the ecu and then it's fine. he's had it for 2 years and it's only done that 3 times.

also i'll be trading a full bolt on 98 ford zx2 with 107k miles. is this a good trade?

thanks guys

it's going to be a daily driver so an auto would be good i guess. i've noticed a lot of people that converted them to manual though. so it must not be too hard?

anyone know about those problems that i mentioned? they seem minor. i just don't want to get into anything that will be costly and not worth it

There is nothing wrong with an automatic. I don't have an automatic, but there is nothing wrong with it.

1) The oil pressure issue could be just a loose/dirty connector on the oil filter housing.
2) The ECU issue could be leaking capacitors.

Both are very common problems and easy to fix. That is **assuming** that's the cause of the issue.

well the way i look at it. i've got a 76 corvette that's a straight up beast, and a 87 rx7 turbo II. they are both manuals and they both can't be used for daily drivers because the corvette gets like 5mpg and needs 93 plus 3 gallons of VP12 (which is $7/gal) and the rx7 is streetported big time and pretty much drinks the gas and oil pretty bad as well. so the talon will be a daily pretty much. i also travel back and forth to school. it's a 400mile commute so it'll be nice to have an auto.

thanks for the replies guys!

I have 2g auto awd and like it. The manuals have a larger 14b turbo and 450cc injectors, while the autos have 390s and the smaller 13g turbo.

I put in an importtrans shift kit into my car and it livened up quite a bit. You can get 450cc injectors on DSM tuners for pretty cheap. I think 1g autos were rated at 195 hp. A 3" exhaust is pretty easy to build if you wanna do it cheaply and yields nice gains and room for future mods.

If your into drag, auto is t he way to go. On the streets you can still row throught the gears with the shifter too. Something to think about.

Not exactly. The 2g have a T-25 turbo, manual or auto. Both have 450cc injectors. The 1g a/t has 390cc injectors but base fuel pressure is 43.7 PSI. The 1g m/t have 450cc injectors with a base fuel pressure of 37 PSI. The 1g automatics have the 13g while the 1g m/t have 14b.

yeah i think what is meant was that he has a 2g awd and then put out the specs for the 1g for me because that's what i'm trading for
