So I've had more headaches than I can handle with my 5spd, been contemplating auto for a while, just never found a swap car, well, I have one now, and I'm pulling the trigger.

Just have a few basic questions.

1. How far will the stock tq converter go if at all? - I'm in the 550whp range trapping a little over 130 on a stock 6 bolt.

2. If the stock converter won't cut it, what converter would you recommend for a majority street and some strip car w/o n20? I've been looking into Sinister Speed's converter offerings, but am open to other options.

3. Who would you recommend for auto rebuilds?

I've been doing some reading about the shift boxes and kiggly mods. I think I'd prefer do some sort of shifting action vs just hitting a button, but maybe the benefits outweigh it.

Any other tips about things to look for or be aware of when swapping from 5spd to auto in a 1g would be great.

Thanks

You should get ahold Of Tim Zimmer TMZ Performance Auto is not listed on the site, But I assure you he does do auto's.

As far as auto shifter mods you have, kiggly, roadsurge, fourced 4, and chipping the stock tcu.

The converter is up to you..But an 8 or ten inch, for a large frame turbo is what you may want. Check out http://sinisterspeed.net/mitsubishi/torque-converters

I've spent a little time on Sinisters website reading. From what I've read I think that the 8" Core 2 Weighted should work well with my setup, unfortunately they are OOS until the new year.

Whats your boost when you did 508?

Using link 2 step launch control?

What is your target boost level on launch? Your on the 68 So your wanting to launch at 4k ish I assume, maybe 45k?

I have to ask but this isnt you dd is it?

I am on stock converter but I am compounded... Word has it I have the quickest and fastest stock stall converter DSM.

I was on 32psi when I did 508, I'm on 36psi now, trapping over 130 in the 1/4.

I don't have a target boost level, I don't even know what a realistic goal is for an HTA86 on a stock 6bolt bottom end, a few lbs at most?

I'd like to think that 4-4.5k would be an ideal launch area for me, but I'm not entirely sure.

HELL NO it is not my DD, it gets driven on the street once a week usually, and the track once every few months.

How bad is the stock converter really? I know that it's going to be practically impossible to launch in boost, but I'm also not looking for a 1.3-1.4" 60ft either haha.

If you count John out..My 1g stock converter lets me get up to around 3k,perhapps more,My tach in the house now,I can't remember.

I can build 16 psi before it wants too keep going, and the brakes no longer want to hold..Ohh on the 14b.

So the 68 with a 4.5k stall, launching on 25+ is gonna be mean as hell.. Your brakes will hold better than mine, But being able to stall to 4k 4.5k on your car..Flipping mean.

Look at KP crap whats his screen name..Umm Damm only his real name comes to mind..The red auto 1g from WI..That Zimmer built the trans for.Damm, well his screen name is slipping my mind.Check his 60's when someone says the right name..

Hold for edit.

EDIT: America F yeah.. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/members/kp116-105607.html

And V I don't think the op would say no to NO2..But that has not come up yet, and for good reason.Look at Force,Stock converter record holder..Thats probably why NO2 has not been discussed yet.

A few people actually use the stock converter on bigger set ups because there tighter on the top but use n2o to spool for the launch. In terms of reliability its reliable just doesnt launch well on bigger set ups without help.

I see, I actually have a nitrous kit on the car already that I used when I had an HTA68 It's just for decoration now a days. I could set it up for the launch if need be but I was trying to avoid complicating things.

I would recommend calling sinister and talking to them. They can could point you in the right direction based on your set up better than anyone. There converters seem to be getting the best of both worlds recently, where your getting a good stall but also aren't too loose up top. Especially if you aren't wanting to use n2o.

I know we are on the other side of the county an all... .

But Metro Trans is who builds the trans for English. They are a smaller shop in a real small town out here. So I'm sure they wouldn't mind helping out an would have some time to talk over all this with you... .
Message me if you want I can get you there contact info and I'm sure we can go over a few other things :).
