I decided to pick up this intercooler from GodSpeed and wanted some opinions, I know most DSMers upgrade to a BIG FMIC but I wanted something small and keep the spool short.

upgrades in my profile are up to date

GODSPEED TYPE M [IC-009] - $220.00 : GodSpeed Project, The Art of Performance

I already bought the intercooler but should I keep it or sell it and get something bigger? my plans are DSMlink and running my 16g @ 16-17psi

It won't cool anything. Chinese cores = heat soak by second gear.

It'll work better than stock SMIC. Without question. Plus its a decent size for a 16G. Wouldn't be a good IC for a 20G but it would be a good size for 16G or bigT28 sized turbos. Bar and plate is a good design. I'd suspect the couplers and clamps that come with it will be crap. I've seen worse. Big FMIC on a small turbo like 16G increases lag time considerably. I'd say give it a whirl. See how it does.

its a little bitty intercooler. I have one exactly like that i bought for like 70 bucks years ago. Never used it. I still have it sitting around somewhere.
I think it wont suit your needs and you should look into a PR or vrsf kit. Or ETS if youve got really deep pockets

You can make up spool and not worry about fmic by using a smaller hotside or a small turbo like a small 16g 14b or whatever.

Why not just spend a few more dollars and go with the VRSF kit...a kit that has been proven to support big numbers...

I believe I'm running some kind of knock-off core. It came on the car and just decided to run it for the S&G's until I got things dialed in, then switch to a VRSF core. But after doing some WOT tuning on a decent Colorado day (around 70*), I was amazed to find the upper intake pipes cold to the touch. It only got warm where the pipes met the throttle body which isn't surprising since I still have the FIAV and I'm using a stock intake manifold gasket. However, the core I have is pretty big. A bit taller than the one you pictured. But it also has a really stupid route so that both fans can be used. Here's a pic:

I plan to cut the bumper to show a bit more of it since I still have the 2ga bumper. But I have never had any obvious issues with heatsoak. Even after romping around for hours pushing 15psi on a 16g the pipes were still cold to the touch. I'm not saying Ebay or knock-off cores are the best thing ever, but don't believe that you need a huge $500 core to run a baby turbo on the streets. Plus, after this one is all beat up from daily driving or if I max out it's flow in the future, I can toss it and not think twice about it. I also had no noticeable issues with spool time as a result of a a larger core.

I never did like the way the piping went infront of the intercooler, but it is awesome that you get to keep your stock rad fans, I have the side to side piping and now I'm having to deal with overheating issues, im getting a rad shroud to help.

I use the knock off FMIC on my wifes car, seems to work great. Its mainly a show car so its mainly for looks. Only complaint I had was couplers and clamps were cheap feeling. But after a long pull the upper pipe is still cool to touch so it doesnt work too bad
