I am in the market for a dsmlink v3. I want to use a GM mas but im not sure what the better set up is. Is it better to get a GM mas an maft an then tune with a dsmlink or buy the dsmlink with the cable so you can run the gm mas to the ecu. I would like to know what would be more cost effective and what is less of a pain in the ass if there is such a thing. I have not found anyone running dsmlink v3 with the GM mas an the cable ran to the ecu. I wanted to know the difference before i bought anything.

Your better bet would be to get link v3 and the cable that runs from the gm maf to the ecu. Dont worry about the translator. The translator's purpose is to take the hz reading from the gm maf and translate it into something our ecu can understand. The translator is also a very primitive way of tuning and if you have dsmlink it would be useless. All your tuning will be done via dsmlink and they specifically designed v3 so you dont have to have a translator.

+1 on the cable, I still have the MAFT on my V3, the V3 has an internal translater so you don't need the box cluttering up the engine bay. Only reason I still have mine is because I was unsure on my brand of injector when I ordered, so I just kept my MAFT.

Get the cable for a couple of reason:

1. Less money than a translator.
2. Cleaner than having the translator in the engine bay.
3. Finer tuning since there are more airflow points to tune(some people won't like this because it will be harder and take more time to tune)

ECM Cable all the way...

As for what everyone else has mentioned and also not to forget when Thomas and Dave starts and finish with speed density you and than throw the MAFT and the GM away :thumb:

If you are interested and go with a MAFT let me know I will sell you mine.

I'm biased, of course, but even trying to ignore that, I would still recommend the GM MAF with our cable run to the ECU. The procedure for dialing this setup in is really not complicated and the results as far as I can tell are nearly perfect. Here's the write up I did on my own car.

I never thought I'd actually be able to say it when we started on the GM MAF integration stuff, but I'm actually unsure sometimes if I have the 2G DSM MAF connected or the 3" GM MAF now when I drive my car. So it does work fine once dialed in.

Definately get the cable it was way cheaper, the cable is only like 75 bucks and the translator is like 200 buck so save the 125 for something else. I just got the V3 link and maf cable but I have not hooked it up yet, it is going to look much cleaner than with the translator although I do have one for sale for anyone that is looking for one, just pm me. Thats my opinion.

snowboarder714 is there a diffrence to runing it the way you have it compared to just swaping it with where the stock unit is?

Having it his way makes it so you can vent the bov to the atmosphere. Putting it like stock you will have to have the bov operate like stock. Some people have said having it in the stock location makes the readings "more steady."
