GM MAFT info

first of all what does a gm maf sensor do, will it just slip in place of my other maf sensor. some one on the net was saying that you can vent your bov to the atmosphere with a gm maf sensor is this true. how easy is it to hook up. Also what is the gm maft, I know i can get the mass air flow sensor off many gm vehicles but where do i get the translator.

A GM maf will allow more air to flow I think the hz are higher than mitsu maf's. As for the translator its a tuning device which tricks the ecu into seeing more air or less depending on what you have it set to kinda like a safc but without hacking into the wiring harness that goes into the ecu. No it doesnt go in the same place as your factory maf it is mainly used with fmic kits and is mounted on the pipe between the bov and the throttle body to measure the air accurately. You can use a sidemount with it as well if you really want to but I wouldn't suggest it unless you have hard piping. Yes you can vent to atmosphere like this depending on what bov your using. If you are using a factory 1g bov you have to recirclulate it or else your car wont run right. If you have a bov thats able to be recirculated just recurculate it to be on the safe side. Yes it is easy to hook up because normally it plugs right into the factory maf plug. Usually people sell them together as a combo if you want look in the classifieds im sure there are some in there and you can get instructions on how to use it from the 2nd link listed bellow.
Forgot to mention they have newer versions out that can placed inside the car and have a screen for breeze if tuning without having to pop your hood to make adjustments.

If your dead set on Running a GM MAF and Translator.

I would recommend getting the MAF Translator Gen II as it has the much more adjust ability. More so then a SAFC even an a ton of features an you can even data log from it. Also wideband tracking among other things.

Hi there i just have one other question about the gm maf sensor. I picked up a gm maf sensor over the weekend and was wondering do i need the translator to put the maf senor in or can i just wire in the sensor using the plug from the vehicle that i got the sensor from. If so what wires on the 4g63 harness do i need to tap into and can i vent to the atmosphere without the translator. thanks

You will need the Maf translator or run Dsmlink.

+1 you need the translator or DSM link if your planning any upgrades that are gonna put out some power and require fine tuning id just link it and get it over with you will appreciate it in the end.
