GM MAFT and honeycombs

It's fine. On my 2000 C5, I had removed them BUT it did not give me any additional HP.

Just leave them on, they act as "airflow straighteners" and you wont risk damaging the hair-thin sensors (resistors) behind the mesh.

Mine didn't have the honeycombs on at all when I bought it, and I had researched it on several chevy forums as well as here and found that though people had their own beliefs on things, the effects were not near as noticable as with taking out the honeycombs in a DSM. I installed mine, didn't worry about it, and it runs great with no problems whatsoever.

I got a brand new 3" maf with the screens. I ripped those suckers right out! Come on, that's a restriction! :)

Seriously, I had asked Mike from full throttle and he said it didn't matter, run it with them or not. Most of the people I know take them out.

As a side note, the Z06's MAF doesnt have screens from the factory, so it definitely doesnt hurt to remove em.

My 3.5" MAF doesn't have the screen on it. In fact, my friend with a 2001 z28 took his screens off and dremeled down the divider. Supposedly the Chevy guys do this regularly. I guess it's like shaving down your throttle body shaft. More air = more power!

With the GM mas all the screen does is keep debris from hitting the sensor wires. It has absolutely no effect on how the mas reads. In or out probably wouldn't make much difference from a performance standpoint.

All the screen does is attempt to straighten out the airflow. I had a 99 Trans Am and a 95 Z28, both with the MAF screens removed. Granatelli Motorsports make a 3" maf already ported with the screen removed for about $325 that flows much better than the stock GM unit.

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps

Just a note for y'all. I work on GM cars/trucks for a living. Those little wires and resistors are really damn sensitive. Just cleaning the crud off them will fix alot of problems from check engine lights to poor mileage and crappy running.

If there is no hp difference, I'd leave the honeycombs in myself, that is if I had one.

Hey Bohrn whats the best way to clean those lil resistors?

I don't want to touch them.

well, get some throttle body cleaner and a cue tip. Honestly :) I think they might make it a j-tool someday ;) anyways, spray the cleaner on the cue tip and gently wipe them. You will get lotsa crap on there.
