This is the manifold differential pressure sensor, also sometimes incorrectly referred to as a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.

The MDP sensor measures the amount of vacuum in the intake manifold. It does not do this to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The MDP sensor measurement is instead used to monitor that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) emissions control system is working correctly. 1G cars used a temperature probe for this, while 2G cars use the MDP sensor.

It is true that the non-turbo 2G cars have a MAP sensor, not a MDP sensor. It is not certain that it does the same job, although it might.

There are 3 wires from the map sensor. Power, ground, and signal. All 3 of these wires are wired into specific wires coming from the ecu's harness. Then you just have to run a vacuum line to the map sensor and set it up in dsmlink.

The 2g's have a manifold differential pressure sensor (mdp sensor). The 1g's don't have this. It is part of the egr system. I don't know if you can use this or not since I haven't researched it due to me owning a 1g. I am sure it can't read as much boost as the map sensors though.

So how does it connect to say like DSMLink for logging? We have an MAP sensor on our cars as well right? Why not use that?

Your probably confusing it because people tap into the mdp sensor to wire the map sensor. That's how I have mine. Map logs boost kind of like a reassurance/backup to a boost gauge. It also helps to tune in general especially maf-t setups.
