I run mobil 1 in my daily driver now. I drive almost 100 miles round trip a day, and I was wondering if anyone has tried out the Mobil 1 15,000 oil. I just can't imagine that it would hold up that long in a turbo vehicle. Anyone that uses it please give me some feedback. I would like to switch because it seems like all I do is change the oil in it.

this is the factory service manual. The oil change interval is 5000 miles for turbo dsms and 7500 for non turbo!!!...

Based on oil analysis, I don't think it's a good idea to go that long on conventional (dino) oil with a turbo engine, because of the heat. And the service manual is reffering to conventional in this example. Therefore, it is not material to the poster's original question IMHO. He is asking about 15K mobile 1 synthetic.

Where to start with this topic. It's been so throughly discussed already. One made a point about how it's just been recently that engines have been giving the factory ok to run 10k+ miles on an oil change. Why??? The engines do have something to do with it. Newer technology in the machining processes are producing better engines. Cylinders are straighter and seal better. Again why??? EMISSIONS!!! Every good thing about our cars and future cars is because the government mandates low emissions and therefore the manufactures have to meet these standards. Anyway I'm not going to get too deep into detail unless I'm told I'm wrong.

Oils have also made amazing advances to meet the needs of manufacturers. Look at the API ratings of the new oil. Now look in your manual of your 1g dsm and look at the required API rating it requires. Additive packages that include better detergents and anti corrosion inhibitors have allowed us to run our oil longer. Why does a Ford car require 5w20? or my dodge Hemi require 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter? Again it's all emissions. Whatever oil is used when certifying the engine is what is madated to use.

Back in the day when i used to change oil there were companies that demanded we only change the filter and top the oil level off. So we did. They would have 40k or more miles on these cars. You can garantee they have crunched all the numbers and found it more cost effective to just change one quart of oil and oil filter. So if you want to run 10k-15k on your oil I would have to say it depends on a few different things. Driving conditions: If you go to the track alot or hussle people you know and pull your car hard and run 10k on your oil. If you run on the highway and your car sees a lot of constant speed and very little hard pulls i'd say go for the 10k and change your filter every 4k-5k. Remember, and this is very important. 90% of all the wear your engine will see is during startup. Oil starved cylinder walls and rings take it the worst. Camshafts and other parts wear very little because they are so hard. Anyway it's time for work. later

IMO it is just as relavent as your posts. If mitsu is suggesting that we go 5000 on conventional oil, I think that it supports the opinion that going 15k on synthetic oil with a healthy motor is perfectly fine. THINK outside the box man!! LOL
