So...im picking up a 1GB GSX rolling chassis this week and im finally getting a REAL DSM. My question to you guys is...I want to learn the right way to do things...I have a 98 Eclipse RS(T) that i've had fun with and taken the time to get all my bodykit and turbo kits and everything out of the way. So can you guys just fill me in on what parts I should get for it and what I will need. Basically I want a low 12 (or faster) 1G DSM. I building it with a 6-Bolt 4G63 and just kinda am giving you guys time to teach me..Im not gonna be cocky, just ready to learn. :dsm:

I would say start out with the fuel system and nessasary gauges
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- Regulator
- new ss lines
- Fuel filter change
- Injectors
- EGT gauge
- Boost gauge

A wideband 02 sensor and a form of management, I run the plx m-300 wideband with the dsmlink v2:Kick butt setup for $1000 if you ask me. Its everything you need. If you wanna spend a little less safc and wideband will do the trick.

Thats what I would start with...and an intake of coarse. btw: dont forget about matienence once you get it, boost leak test, oil change, gear fluid change plus transfer case. Have fun man and welcome to the world of 4g63 dsm power :thumb:

All I can say to you is read, read until your head falls off. Pretty much everything you need to know is already on the site, search and read EVERYTHING.

As for engine, find a 4g63t engine off ebay or dsmtrader. Get pistons, rods, arp studs, the works. Put it together and drop it into the car. Get a shep tranny. Get some DSM link, fuel pump, injectors, FMIC, and a 3" exhaust. Tune that baby and you should be into the 12s.

its a rolling chasis, he needs an engine, and maybe a tranny

If you've done all that work on your current car, you're already ahead of the game. The 4G63 is just like any other motor - just better :sneaky:

The key thing is to take your time and plan. I found the best way to do things is make sure you have your goals in mind, you CLEAN EVERYTHING, i mean, Spotless. Take the time to clean it all down to the last bolt and nut. it will go together better, run better, and look amazing. Organize and plan. Answer questions now and don't buy cheap ass ebay parts and hope that you're going to make a fast reliable car. remember, You get what you pay for.

Since you're starting with a clean slate, I'm guessing the car has no motor or drivetrain? I would do every bit of maintenace i could to that car. check all the suspension parts, what drive train parts you have, and start replacing and reconditioning the car to make it feel like new.

Build the motor (if you're building one) to a budget for your goals.. and maybe a little extra because you'll want to go faster. everyone always does. Pick out a turbo that will satisfy your goals... ask if it's a daily driver or just a race car.

plan parts for fuel and tuning. this is probably the most crucial part in our set ups.

if you want to know more you'll have to ask specific questions.. follow the tuning guide and it will answer the majority of your concerns. http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/1gturbo/

good luck in your project.... they're expensive, and may cause excessive drinking and foul language... you've been warned. :thumb: :dsm:

Dont know if the drivetrain is with it (assuming no) So im just going to get a 4G63T 6-Bolt. I've got quite a few friends that have one or can get one...right now im not saying this car is going to be a daily driver but I know once I get it going that im going to drive it daily so im putting that up now. I basically want a reliable 1GB (I know that is a oxy-moron) that I will buy all the right parts up front so I can avoid major problems. I know maintenence is a biggy with these cars and I plan on taking car of it the best I possible can. I just thought I would ask the people who know the most about them how they would go about it if they had a clean slate and had the time to get a list of everything instead of just jumping into the project and finding out later a part or something that I should not have got. :dsm:

You should buy the $10K plus in parts i have on my "still to buy" list and give them to me... Then I'll tell you exactly how to build a 1gb AWD DSM.

Oh, and I have the Zeitronix/DSMlink combo... and I think it is probably the best value per dollar tuning investment out there.

As far as all the other parts... well, I'll be awaiting your individual parts posts when you figure out about how much you want to spend, what exactly you're looking for as far as performance, and how far you want to go with it.

I also recomend starting an excel file and basically figure, parts, projected cost, actual cost, importance, store, details.
The above format has worked wonders for me, as the number at the bottom just gets bigger.. and bigger... and bigger.

If you've done all that work this platform will be a piece of cake. For a low 12's or 11sec car don't go over the top. would be fine with a 3000gt or supra pump, rewired will flow enough fuel for your goal and be less whinny than a walboro. If you want a 255 pm me, i'll sell you mine for dirt cheap.

YOUR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY is to do all the maintenance!!! Its an old platform and things break......usually all at once. The biggest thing you will struggle with is the 1g tranny, they suck. Find one with low milage and take care of it!!! If you find something that looks old, replace it. Then just go through the guide, its a piece of cake :thumb:

here's just a little bit of what i've done when i first got my AWD 1GB, Go through all the nuts/bolt (literally) and replace them with new hardware and anti-seize. So further down the line when you need to take something out it won't be fighting you. As far as modding goes, remember the 3 factors all tuning revolves around. Those would be Fuel, Air, and Spark. But like ^^^^ said do the basic maintenance first, filters, fluids, plugs, wires, emissions,(if you have strict standards where you live) Bushings, belts, etc etc. Have fun and always place your safety first. Remember IT'S a DSM have lots of patience. you'll need it.... I know I do. :D
