Well here is ANOTHER question about the Lower Ball Joint recall. This is what happened... A few weeks ago I had my car at a local shop to get some work done, and I was asking the Tech about the Lower Ball Joints. I have been hearing some noise from the left front, and sure enough he said both of my front Lower Ball Joints are bad and need replaced. You can see leakage, and he said there is a lot of play on the one side. I told him I heard there was a Recall on it, so he looked it up on "ALLData" (i think thats the name), and it showed my make and model as being affected with the recall. So I took my car over to Mitsu, and the guy ran my VIN and keeps saying "nope, no open recalls". What does this mean? Is it possible that the previous owner had the LBJ sealed but not replaced, and now they are bad? Is that why Mitsu is not showing any open recalls? Please help, I cant afford $450 repair right now, and I really need them fixed. BTW, I drive a 1999 GSX 5spd, with 45,000 on the odometer. Can anyone on here run my VIN for me if I give it to them?

Thanks in advance! -jam

I dunno, i went to the dealer yesterday myself and checked up on all recalls on my N/T and they told me there were NONE AT ALL for my model.....hummmmm

Well, here is an update.. I called Mitsubishi USA (1888MITSU2004), and spoke with a rep. She directed my call to another lady, who then told me basically "tough luck." She said that my VIN shows the recall has already been done, but couldnt tell me if they replaced the lower ball joints, or just sealed them. She said the fix was done in 2001, and I asked her if she thought it was odd that they are bad already?!?, and she basically told me there isnt anything I can do about it. We then got into an argument about what happens if they break and I wreck, and she said that then my insurance company will then have to take it up with them. So now all I can do is file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Administration, and they probably wont do anything for me...

All in all, I am about to get screwed $500. I am not feeling too happy about mitsu right now. :thumbdown -jam

I was under the impression that the ball joint recall was a safety issue and as such had to be performed as many times as necessary (much like the 1G transfer case leakage)?

Well I had a similar problem I heard the noise coming from the front as well. I call Chrysler gave them my VIN, and they notified me that the recall was already performed on the car. Then I called a local Chyrsler dealership.

I gave them my VIN, and the dealer told me the recall was already performed. I then asked is there a possibility that the ball joints could have went bad already. They said yes. So I asked can they run a test to see if the lower ball joints went bad. The service clerk said yes.

He said if the diagnostic test comes up showing the ball joints are bad then they would replace them for free. But if the diagnostic test comes back showing the ball joints aren't bad then I would have to pay $88 an hour. I knew the ball joints were bad, so I took my TSI AWD over to the dealer about an hour later I get a call from the dealer telling me the ball joints are bad, and he would be replacing them free of charge.

So yes dealers are entitlted to change of free of charge as many times as the recall goes bad, but they are allowed to charge you if they inspect your car and the problem was not your lower ball joints. Hope I helped. :thumb:

i hate mitsu i just hate them  if they do not perform the recall just tell them that their going to get a visit from one my lawyer and second the bbb that worked for me :thumb:

Ya i also would like to know that because the only place i can get parts for my car is a mitsubishi dealer? BIondimitsubishi in plum,pa. :) closest one to my house. I called the chrysler dodge and they said they didnt have the parts for my car and would have to order them. Biondi stocks all my parts. Ex: The other day i put sportlines on my car and needed a new sway bar end link and called chrysler/dodge and they told me they couldnt help me? I called Biondi and they said they had the part for $29.50.

You need to threaten them with the line *My lawyer will be calling you in the morning if this situation doesnt get fixed*. My 98 GSX had the balljoint recall done 3 times by the first owner before I even bought it. The recall is a safety issue and Mitsu is liable for the recall. If the refuse to fix it, then have your lawyer handle it.

They gave me that same run around about "it has already been fixed". I talked to them several times, and they are the only Mitsu within a couple hundred miles. I ended up having to bite the bullet and pay a few hundred to have it fixed. I hate mitsu. oh and I sold the car like 6 months ago. wish i could get her back...

Will mitsu fix my eagle talon ball joint ? Do i have to go to a chrysler dealer?

go to a chrysler dealer[call and setup an appointment, then go ;) ]. we eagle guys have it good, chrysler rocks when it comes to recall service.

My balljoint broke, and chrysler fixed and replaced everything that broke due to it failing. I also had chrysler re-check my Tcase two days ago. Tcase is leaking as i was suspecting, and chryslers is fixing that asap :).

If you or know someone that has a balljoint tool, I would reccomend doing it yourself if it came down to a safetey issue. I just changed both lower ball joints on my 1G & the hardest part of the entire job was taking apart the front end to get at the control arm. The balljoint tool will work wonders, but they cost anywhere from $90.00 to $200.00. So it's best if you know someone that has one. All it is, is a c-clamp looking device with different diameter sleeves & collets. They push right out & right back into the control arm rather easy with this tool.

If you go that route, get new energy suspension control arm bushings & slap them on. You will rest assured knowing that your control arms are both working above expectation. :thumb:

Does anyone know a site to look for recalls for my talon? I've never seen a post and i have never asked about it so i figure this htread is the perfect place for my question.

well when i had recall work done i called mitsu and asked if they would do it as its an eclipse really... but they wont perform recall work on a chrysler badged car so i had to take it to the chrysler dealer if that answers one of your questions.

This is the same exact thing that happened to me. I bought the car, and found out there was recalls on it. Called up @ the dealership, they said the lower ball joint had already been performed on my car. Well home come its already ####ed up?
Mitsubishi has the WORST customer service ive seen, plus they cant even insure there own work.

You just gotta fight with the dealerships. Granted when the 2g's ball joint broke i had to stand in the rain for 3 hours waiting on the dealership after being told 3 times that my VIN doesnt exist. this service writer wasnt happy with me, but neither was i with him.

It broke the axle, and a few other parts. Mitsubishi even asked me how much estimated damage was done in the wreck. Luckily i didnt hit anything or kill anyone.
