I bought a 95 talon tsi and when I got the car the dash there were holes in it from gauges and then they painted it black looked bad. the title that came with the car is the wrong title and the guy that sold the the car I found his number the first time i called-and he is like oh i have it I gave the wrong one to you let's meet up and I will give you the right one blah blah blah. I called him back a day later as he doesn't pick up. I call a few more times and he doesn't answer. So I was wondering cause I want a new black dash and I am doing a 2gb eclipse conversion on my 95 talon do I get new dash and find a different title or what.

Based off of your post this is what i've gathered.

You acquired a new parent and he did not come with the necessary paper work in order for you to prove that he is in fact your new legal guardian.

"I don't have the cash, but I do have the dashboard to my car. If I lose, winner takes my dash clean and clear. But if I win, I get the dash and the respect"

I don't know why it put dad sorry, but I bought the car from my buddie and my buddie bought it from someone else and my buddie gave me the title which is the wrong title so I tracked down the guy that my buddie bought the car from and now I need the title from him and he won't call me back or anything so I don't know what to do

Part out that car and get a new one. I suppose you could make it a track car if you wanted to as well. You NEED to get the title, definitely make that your main focus (not the dash).

Getti the title is my 1st priorty but I figured if I can get a dash out of someone's Eclipse and get there title could that work

No, that would make it much to easy for car thieves. Your VIN can be found in many different places on your car, not just the dash.

The title goes with the body of the car, not the dash. There are VIN numbers all over the car. Your best bet is to get the title, or give the car back to your buddy and let him deal. Parting it could be considered chopping it. Swapping the dash just to use a different VIN and title is also very illegal.

All jokes aside it's looking like you got scammed. How you bought a car in person and end up walking away with the wrong title is beyond me. I'm advising you to talk to an attorney for advice because I see court in your future.

C'mon man, why would someone give you their dash along with the title if you're not buying their entire car?

i hope all goes best for you. one the guy don't call you, you going to have to hunt him down and sign. hoping your car is not stolen given that he gave it to your buddie with wrong title. second it that there is no lean on the car then you also screwed it that wasn't clear. if thiers a co singer and both parties did not. sign. you can't a title you can't do nothing with the car. lost of money and shattered dreams if you can't get this guy to give and sign the right title. if you try to get title for possesion like if the car was abandon it can take up 6 months for title not given the fact that they try to reach the last owner of the car when they do this. a person can be real grimmy and take the car back claiming was stolen and they car back again and you loose out. so don't like to be negative. but i been their with titles. i sold a car and find out i had to go to court for abandoment of a car and fatistious plates, 5 years after i sold the car ### last person never changed the titlle. car was driven around with fake plates and unrigstered for 5 years. they found in a parking at a super market and towed the car for fake plates. everything got dropped in court, but if i had the money i would've too the car off the impound and resell it. but also had lean a title and hunting down the lean or co buyers is a pain since dmv don't like to really help or release info on the last owner.

I think all the advice you need is already posted. Heres what i would do:

1. Try to get your money back from your "buddy" and let him deal with it. Tell him if HE gets the correct title, you can buy the car from him then.
2. If he will not give you your money back (this wouldn't be an option for me, I WOULD end up getting it back, one way or another. But just for the sake of showing your options) you will have to hunt that previous owner down and get the correct title for the car.
3. If neither of those work, you will probably have to contact an attourny. You may even want to call the authorities and tell them you just bought this car and they wont give you the title, and have them run the VIN to make sure it isn't hot. That way they know that wou didn't steal it, and may be able to help you get the title from the previous owner.

Adding to that, use the VIN from the door jamb, not the dash. It's easy enough to swap dashes, and the one on the door jamb is the correct one.

You technically could go do some bad stuff, and it would come back on him for still being the registered owner.. I didn't say that.

The worst thing you could do is suggest to someone they commit criminal acts on a forum, particularly this one. Joking or not, you should really think before you say something like that. It helps the OP in absolutely no way what so ever and wasn't even necessary in this thread.

OP I suggest you contact the police if this guy continues to elude you. Your friend most likely will not give you your money back seeing as you don't seem to have a bill of sale between the two of you. The only option you have right now is to get the proper title from the original owner.
