I've been reading around and haven't seen an answer to this exact problem. I bought a 96 elcipse rs (auto) with 80k miles and was told I'd need to replace the input/output speed sensors. I got a good deal on the sensors at rockauto.com and ran with it.

Before I replaced the sensors the tranny would jerk into 'D' and would shift at all sorts of rpms. Now that i've replaced the sensors I'm not getting 3rd at all, and It clunks into drive so bad it'll give you whiplash. Took it to Autozone today and had the guy plug in a reader and got the following code:

gear 1 ratio invalid

Ideas? could it be a simple trans flush that'll solve the problem? Is it a TCM issue? Or is the transmission screwed?

I'm ready to pull my hair out (and I'm bald)!!
