I posted this a while ago but I guess it was deleted or something.

I'm going to replace the timing belt, lifters and water pump. I was wondering other then the water pump gasket, what other gaskets should I replace? I want to have them on hand before I tear the car apart.

Well are you wanting to replace just the gaskets from the parts you are removing, or are you wanting to replace any gaskets/seals on that side of the engine.

While you have the head off to do the lifters, you might as well replace the cam shaft sprocket seals, and the valve cover gasket.

If you are willing to put a little more work into it to ensure the gaskets are all good, you can replace the oil pump/pan/filter bracket gaskets and do a balance shaft elimination too so you dont have to worry about the balance shaft belt getting tangled in your timing belt.

I get alot of my engine gaskets from here 4G63T Mitsubishi 2.0 DOHC Turbo Gaskets & Seals.
Go OEM for the timing belt parts of course.
My friend put their mls head gasket in his dsm and was pretty happy with it; of course if you plan on adding alot of boost/power then stick with the tried and true cometic one.

Anything that is there that will be easy to do. I have the valve cover gasket and the water pump thats it.

Yeah will do the BSE while I'm at it too.

Why Should he do a head gasket:confused: No need to take the head of just for lifters. As for the BSE if your taking your front cover off you will need that gasket along with the oil filter housing. Other then that your set VC gasket, water pump, and a oil pan if you want too I just use RTV on my pan.

Opps almost forgot the o-ring for the water tube but that should be in with the water pump.

In order to do the BSE you will have to remove the oil pump/filter/and pan so yeah go ahead and replace those gaskets.

If you get some type of gasket kit you should also get the gaskets for the oil drain tube coming from the turbo (which you will have to disconnect in order to remove the oilpan)

I would also do the oil pump assembly gasket since you're going to be working on that area of the motor.

Yeah not going to touch the head gasket since there are no issues with it.

Valve cover gasket
Half moon seal (can get aluminum Evo seal if you'd like)
CAS o-ring
Spark plug well gaskets
Front main crank seal
Oil pump seal
Oil filter housing gasket
Front case gasket
Water pump gasket
Water pipe o-ring
Oil pickup gasket (pickup has to be removed when taking off front case/oil pump)
Oil return line gasket

And there's some other small parts you might want to get like front case dowel pins, a lifter tool (makes changing them oh so easy), copper gasket spray, RTV, assembly lube/grease, red and blue Loctite, bits for porting the oil filter housing, allen head screw for oil pump cover (you will most likely strip the one that's in there), Great Stuff for Imports (for resealing the oil pan), and gasket remover.

I don't think I'm forgetting anything - at least I hope not.

I'm going to get a bottom end seal kit and I think that will cover most of that. I'm not sure if that include the oil filter adapter parts though.

I have something that leaks on the exhaust (can smell it) but I haven't been able to figure out where it's coming from yet.

I was just going to pull the cam out to replace the lifters since I will have the timing belt off. Will replace the cam seals at the same time (2 or 4 total of these??)

4G63 4G63T 2.0 DOHC Lower Gasket Set 1989 - 4/92 Hyundai and Mitsubishi

G63B 4G15 4G37 4G63 4G64 4G93 Mitsubishi Front Cam Seal

Lower gasket kit + 2 cam shaft seals + valve cover gasket kit (should include the half moon and the 4 spark plug gaskets), and then also get the turbo oil return line gaskets as well (2).

One thing you might check that could cause the leak on the exhaust is the oil dipstick, they are notorious for the rubber hardening on them and then blowing out of the tube.

Also, if you do not have access to some already, you should look into getting the timing belt tools, makes things a whole lot easier

Will do.

What do the oil filter adapter gaskets look like? I don't think they are in the lower end gasket kit from parts dino?

I already have the valve cover gasket set, I'll have to take a look if it's got the 1/2 moon. I know it's got the plug well gaskets.

If I may suggest. If you have your valve cover off and swaping lifters, you could go in and do your valve stem seals too. Though it would require you to remove cams, valve springs, etc. I'm going to be doing that pretty soon too.

Hey nate, the blue gaskets in the lower gasket kit is the oil pump/filter gaskets.

The oddball looking one at the top is the oil pump gasket, and the oil filter gasket is the one that is solid with the 4 holes in the middle. Also the small light brown one is for the oil pickup tube that runs from the oil pump to the oil pan.

When putting the oil pump gasket on, use a little bit of rtv red on the motor side of it so that you can hold the gasket to the motor while you get the pump on. Also just to forewarn you, the bolts to the oil pan are all different lengths so make sure that you keep track which hole the bolt came from.

Won't bother with that unless I have to pull the head for something. Car only has 73000 miles anyhow.
