i havent posted here in quite some time...probably since my 97 gst's been sitting for about two years.

anyways, i was driving down the road and out of nowhere my gas pedal decided it didn't want to move anymore. you cant push it down at all and it lifts freely about an inch but will flop back down to the "stuck" point. i'm assuming that my throttle cable is stuck, but i have no idea how to go about freeing it up again. the line that comes out of the cruise control box and heads over to the back of the intake manifold moves free...but my car idles at 4000rpm, and when i drove it home it felt like it was stuck at about 1/5th throttle. (without pressing the gas pedal i was going about 50mpn in 4th).

any help would be appreciated...any links with pictures would help too.

Possible throttle body seals binding, or its binding in the throttle cable/ cruise control box. Notice where the throttle cable bolts to the back of the intake manifold, remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the bracket for the cable and disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body. Then manually rotate the throttle body shaft to see if it still binds up. If it does'nt the problem lies in the cable or cruise box, if the problem still exists, remove and clean, or replace throttle body or seals.

Since the car has been sitting for a long time it has probably become home for mice or other small furry critters.

Before looking for difficult mechanical problems look around the linkage for left over nut shells and other rodent detritus.

i can manually turn the linkage on the back of the tb by hand (i havent removed the two screws or anything, but where the cable ends on the pulley...the pulley can be moved easily.) its raining so i havent been able to get out and take a look at anything. i've been driving the car again for about 5 months w/ no problems...except for a CEL for the pcv valve.

sounds similar to my issue. pedal felt really hard and stiff, my car idles at 3000rpm. been to cold to look more at it

I had a similar problem with my first awd 1g talon. It was the cruise box. I deleted it with a non cruise cable and that fixed the problem.

Check for a frayed cable along the Throttle cable line, all the way to the cruise box like fwspin mentioned.

Have someone sit in the car and hit the gas on and off. You should be able to track down where the cable is being hung up.

(fwspin) my pms arent working, call me I need help still
