I just finished rebuilding my motor from the crank up. brand new rings too. checked my oil and i noticed it was really thin and smelled like gas. i have 550s but also an afc. Any clue what it could be? :talon:

Well, there is only one way for fuel to get into your oil, through the injector's. So i would say that your either running real rich, or you have an injector leaking. :dsm:

Check compression and make sure the rings are sealing.

Do you mind explaining how?

Are you kidding??? You've never seen or heard of an injector sticking and leaking??? or an engine hydrolocking from an injector leaking??? We actually had a camaro ss bend a con rod from an injector sticking open on a car that had maybe 10,000 miles on it. That is why i said it could be from running really rich (sticking injector would cause this symptom) or a generally leaking injector after you shut down the engine and it leaks all night until the fuel pressure is relieved. At least twice a month i have to dump and extra half gallon of oil/fuel out of a bike because the float in the carbs have stuck or an injector has stuck and dumped fuel into the intake and it leaked past the rings into the crankcase. :dsm:

My question was a serious one, I really wanted to know. Just because they gave me the title doesn't mean I know everything....not yet anyway. I also thought you meant leaking directly from injector directly into the crank case. Thanks for the info. :)

should oil not have a gas smell in it? all cars that ive owned when checking the oil and examining it i would always notice a gas smell....

and if you have new rings do they not have to seat properly first?

Oh, i thought you were calling me out. Usually when someone ask's someone to explain on here it's to find error in the person's thinking. I guess i'm becoming sensitive to the way thing's usually are on here. :D

Oil should'nt have a fuel smell at any point. Used oil has a smell all it's own and it's not the smell of fuel. Yes new ring's do have to break in, but you still should'nt have fuel in the oil at any point. :dsm:

RacethisTSI - Yes, definatily do a compression test to check the rings, like Oldman said. If you are running very rich and you dont have sufficient spark, then it is possible for the fuel to wash the oil from the cylinder walls and then the fuel with start to seep past the rings causing you to get fuel in your oil pan..... Also, you will want to comp. test to see if your rings are even seated since you have a fresh rebuild.

my battery dided on me well i was doing some tuning today...havent had time to do a comp test but will do first thing tommorw...how long does it usually take rings to seat? :talon:

With about 100 miles on them, the rings should be seated enough to show good compression numbers. :dsm:

checked compresion....all cyliders are between 150 and 160...wut else could it be? :talon:

Have you tested the injectors yet? And also consider other fuel system components and possibly the ECU. I heard someone's ECU went bad, and sent a bunch a gas into the cylinders...HYDROLOCKED IT!

If you do a search on gas in oil you will see the guy's post.

ALSO: a fouled speak plug or bad plug does not burn the fuel, and so it ends up washing past the rings.

1. injectors
2. Bad plug
3. ECU
4. Other fuel related components? FPR, etc..?

thanks for the heads up...i checked my injectors....none of them seem to be leaking.....also checked my spark and seems fine....my motor is acually running alot better since i tooned down the afc...advanced the timing...and changed my oil...tahnks for all your help but i think its alright now...just running too rich with new rings is what i think did it :thumb: :talon:

as with alll dsms..you fix a problem and you get another one. now i have a deccent amount of blue smoke out of the exhuast. No clue y. compression is 170 to 180 across the head, and brand new vavle seals. So now i fear the worst, i fear that the turbo seal is going bad and leaking into the exhuast... any chance its something else  :talon:

Don't ask 'cause you really really don't wanna know :)
You fixed the injector you said right? Check your plugs again and make sure they're not covered in oil.
