What are the common reasons that a gas gauge wont read less then 1/8 tank

Ok so an 1/8 th of a tank for you is actually empty?

The little bob thing on the fuel pump assembly isn't going down all the way for some reason probably.

like mentioned above its in the fuel pump assemly, the fuel level sensor

Got mine at 77k miles and it has never went below an 1/8th tank..Even when the gas light came on..

+1 on the bobber thingy. Give it a quick glance and flick it a couple times to make sure nothing is blocking it possibly?

If your tank has a big dent on the bottom it can prevent the sensor arm from going all the way down. And of course if one of the 2 level sensors is hanging up or is faulty (eg. doesn't have enough resistance in the empty position).

My gas gauge will either turn on the low fuel light with the gauge reading 1/4 tank, or it wont turn on till about 1/8 of an inch below the empty line. Its a very inaccurate set up. I just use my trip odometer to make sure i don't run out.

The dent in the tank makes perfect sense, i would hate to know what would have caused such a dent. Besides that, there must be some kind of sending unit failure either mechanical of electrical. Which isnt a helpful statement at all, .

My light goes on at 1/4 too but the gauge wont go less then thar

had the same problem, there was a pretty significant dent in my tank so i pulled one from the scrap yard and replaced it and my gauge has been working as good as new, the light finally comes on when it reaches E

I had the same problem. Found out the PO of the car did some work and when he put the assembly back it he didn't line it up and it was getting caught on some stuff in the tank. Rotated the assembly all works now.

Just be sure to drain the fuel from the lines before removing them from the fuel pump assembly.

its probally a because of the GSX sattle tank. It uses a dual sender. You can have an 1/8 of a tank of gas on the drivers side that wont reach the passenger side that has the pickup

Would that be the thing that looks like the fuel pump cover under the drivers rear seat?

My car does the same thing except it won't go below in-between the half and 1/4 mark:/ I just rely on my gas light
