I know the ''how to turbo a n/t 4g63" has been covered many times but I need some specifics. I know all about the differences between the turbo and non turbo motor, I also know the damage that can be done to the pistons, and trans if I decide to run a lot of boost. I simply want to drive this car as a dd right now. When money persists I will swap the block, trans and rear end. I traded for this car and was definitely screwed over. My own fault. As it sits its a 1990 Galant GSX, stock n/t motor with a turbo and exhaust manifold of a 1g talon. The injectors are stock. I believe 240cc. I'm not sure if the ECU is the factory one or has been swapped. Car also has a front mount intercooler. I want to salvage this car. I have 1300 into the new timing belt and accessories as well as having the head rebuilt. All was done by a reputable shop in Louisville, KY. Would it be easier to just swap in a ECU from a turbo 5 speed and run the appropriate wires to the knock sensor and maf? OR should I source an entire wire harness? What ECU should I use? Some say any 5 speed turbo 1g will work, Others say there is a difference between the 90 and 91-94. Same goes for the harness? what year specifically do i need to look for? I already have 450cc injectors. I know I should search and trust me I have. But not alot pertains to the galant GSX since its quite rare. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have one at home. I bought it as a parts car and brought it back to life. Use a turbo ecu, a 5 speed would be preferable. Then get stock 450's and a turbo m/t fpr, and a 1g maf.

I don't know about 90/91 compatability. Mine is a 90 has a 91 ecu in it, i didn't have to mod anything, but it might have allready been done. Either way it isn't that complicated to put a 91 ecu in a 90, so either ecu will be just fine.

I wouldn't swap the harness, that's a lot of $$ for the 10min it will take you make the n/t a turbo harness.

You'll need to wire in a resistor pack too!

You'll need to add a wire for the maf. It's been a long time so I'm not sure if its the ait or the maf reset wire.

You also could add a wire for the ks, but IMHO it's optional. With no ks you get a cel, but anytime you have a load the ecu defaults to 9 knock counts and pulls like 3* of timing, which seems to be just about right on a 9:1 motor with stockish boost and a fmic.

If you wire it, it will most likely pick up knock here and there from running full timming and set the octane low, and you'll be on the fully reduced maps.

If your gonna go hard with it you should put the ks in. Use sheilded mic cable.

I'd also probably run BR7ES plugs, the NON-projected type.

Imho, the trans isn't that much weaker than a turbodsm. Gears are almost the same size, but it drives the cd off 4th gear instead of 3rd

Thanks for the response! Sounds simple enough. What about the fuel pump? I've heard that needs to be upgraded as well.
