On the 2.4 g4cs block is there any imprints on the block that say "g4cs"? I remember reading about it somewhere in one of the many 2.4 threads but I can't find it anymore. If it's imprinted which I'm sure it is, what place is it at? I'm going to the junkyard soon and want to make sure I'm pulling the right engine if I find it. Thanks.

Yes there is a stamp of G4CS in the block. It is just above the oil pan on the exhaust and timing belt side of the block. If the block is greasy it can be hard to see.

yeah its stamped on the flat spot right next to the oil dipstick tube. theres also a "2.4" between the exhaust manifold and the oil pan.

Both posts above are correct; The flat spot has 'G4CS' and there is a large 2.4 on the lower front part of the block, under the exhaust manifold. I'm sure you came across my post about finding one and what to take, but if you didn't HERE is the link. The 2.4 was the ONLY four cylinder available in the 89-91 Sonata. That means if you find a Sonata, and it falls in those years, and it's a four cylinder, it is a G4CS. If you have ever gotten into the timing belt side of the 4G63T, then you will easily recognize the layout on the G4CS. Also, there are other cart that had this same engine in it and it is sometimes called the G46B, but I have never seen that engine code stamped on any of the information plates or blocks in the cars at the junkyard I have come across. Happy hunting.
