2G FWD Automatic Transmission Troubles

I recently purchased a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder. The previouse owner said that the valve body for the transmission was messed up. I was wondering could I fix the valve body with a shift kit or a rebuild kit? If so where is a good place to get them at? Otherwise, I would be looking at replacing the whole transmission, and I was wondering if any one knew of any place you can get cheap used transmissions, valve bodies, or valve body rebuild/shift kit?
