So I have this small problem I recieved a bit before I installed my MBC and gauge. my car would seem to rise to full boost with only 1/4 throttle at a little over 2000 rpms. if i could relate it to something I would have to say its like a slipping clutch that transfers only a little bit of power, but basically freely revs as it pleases. i by no means mean this is a drivetrain issue, just saying the turbo revs but i go no where. now this only happens sometimes and im thinking its maybe my TPS? how much boost should i run on a normal acceleration? if i go WOT when its acting up the car will not downshift and it will actually just sit still and bog until i let off. i cannot accelerate with normal traffic even when this doesnt happen. on my stock boost gauge (yes i know it isnt accurate, but its consistant for the before vs. after) I would run a bit below 0 psi (that notch at like 3 in/hg?). that was before this happened. now it seems that i must be at 6.5 to 7 psi on that gauge for normal acceleration. on my real boost gauge im running about 3 to 5 psi. i dont think i should need that in normal (even less than normal most of the time) acceleration. because of this issue im getting about 16 mpg in the city.

I did searches, but obviously didnt find this weird issue

i believe the turbo is still stock. i dont think it has been rebuilt at all

Id check the turbo. Hate to tell you this but if its the original one, its more than likely on its last leg. I know when those 13g's start getting shaft play, they start spooling super fast and they have like no effect on the car. If the turbo checks out ok, then it has to be a boost leak somewhere, but id check the turbo first. Doesnt really matter which one you do first because you still have to pull the intake off the turbo regardless. Thats just where id start. A bad turbo could cause a car to smoke also :talon:

ok how do i check a turbo? what do i look for?

Pull the intake off from the turbo. Then you should be able to see the wheel inside the turbo. Reach in and see if there is shaft play. Check for in and out and up and down shaft play. In and out means the seals are either bad or going bad and will cause the vehicle to smoke. Up and down deals with the bearings. Its kinda hard to explain how much play is too much but a good turbo isnt suppost to have any shaft play. Youll just have to make your own judgement call. Im sure theres some info out there on this that will explain it better than i can. Since your unsure of the turbo, the housing will have some numbers and letters on it. A 13g will have "TDO4H" on the housing, 14b's and 16g's all use the same housings which are "TDO5H". Best of luck and keep us posted :talon:
