Fuel Sending Unit FWD sender work in AWD?

I am looking at getting a new fuel level sending unit and I was wondering if the one from a FWD model would work with my AWD model? There really isn't much info for these sending units, and I would really like to have a functioning one, already ran outta gas once

not sure if this helps on a 1g but on the 2g the awd and the fwd are completly different. the fwd has a two pipe set up (feed & return) where as the awd has three....can't find a awd 2g sending unit anywhere.

No it wont work. As stated above, the FWD have two ports, the AWD has 3, the extra one is the syphon hose from the other side of the gas tank. . .

So you have a 1st gen sending unit but the gas gauge and fuel light don't work?

Fuel light works, but no gas gauge, and the fuel light is sketchy when it is on, because it turns on and off, which makes me assume the sending unit is bad.

The sending unit may just need repaired.

The light works on a sensor I think. But the gauge works on a float that is connected to a needle that slides on a thin magnetic wire wrapped around a trapezoid shaped piece of plastic. As the fuel level goes up and down the needle moves back and forth. What I've seen happen is the wire that is wrapped around the plastic gets a break in and and pins the fuel gauge to full or empty. Which way is your fuel gauge needle pegged?

I bought the wire to repair my old sending unit but never got around it it. It looks extremely tedious and requires soldering and getting this wire very tight as it is wrapped around the plastic.

You should take yours apart and take a look at it. It may be a simple fix you never know.

Yeah deffinatley take your time with the special fuel fittings. The steel hardlines will bend fairly easily. had to repalce the entire fuel system and sending unit.

you can reflare the fittings just dont loose them, theyre hard to find.

Alright thank you. Another thing, I also noticed recently that my fuel pump makes a louder wining noise. Not sure if its normal, but I can here a high pitched beeeeeeeeeeep when I have the music all the way down from the driver's seat. Is the fuel pump in the same part as the fuel sending unit AND is this a good deal?

As for the pressure, just start your car up and then go under the hood and pull the MPI fuse. That should get most of your fuel out of the lines.
