After driving the car a bit I notice like a humming sound coming from the back.. I assumed the fuel pump. My question is is that normal? Its pretty loud.

Also a couple times when I was driving and the Turbo would start to boost it would cut out. Then kinda sputter. Maybe a resulf of a bad fuel pump?

Thanks

I read that it's because the pump is struggling to get the right pressure due to voltage starvation, a rewire kit could help that (larger gauge wire). If you're running the stock pump and stock wiring it could be that. It'll allow the pump to get the best voltage for its operational range.

As for the cut, I think you hit fuel/boost cut (that's from the ecu, it's normal; it's a preventive measure) What boost are you running?

shows 9-10 psi on the gauge, it only happens if im barely giving it any gas just driving. itll cut boost and start to sputter real bad.

If it's cutting at 10psi that's probably not the fuel/boost cut then. Did you ever do a boost leak test on the pipes? (Don't know if you have hard pipes or the stockies) You might have a leak which is throwing off the computer on how much air it's actually getting.

It could also be your MAS sensor. At one point mine was dirty and wasn't reading right it would sputter. But it wasn't consistently when driving along normally, it was all the time. Cleaning it fixed it.

Do you have a logger of any kind or a OBD2 reader? See if it's spilling any codes.

Anyone feel free to chyme in and help him out as well.

its all stock piping.

It did throw a code but i just got the car yeaterday and have yet to get a reader of any kind. I did find that it was pretty low on oil so i filled it back up and reset the codes. It has yet to do it again.

Do these cars have some kind of sesor that cuts the turbo when it realizes there is low oil? i guess if i drive it more tonight ill try and see if itll spit the code again. If it does ill get a reader and go from there

Sounds like a plan! Nothing will stop the turbo because of oil issues well apart from imminent destruction, it works off the exhaust and the exhaust is always open. Just controlled by the wastegate for pressure sake. Oil could be an issue as it's the medium that lubricates the turbo as it spins, if you were bone dry that would be a serious problem. Just in case, you might want to check if the turbo is ok (oil starvation on turbos can break them) Just take off the intake pipe and see if there is any play (in out or side to side).

It's the same process for a hard pipe or a OEM part: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...-style-intake-pipe-filter-review-install.html

It's a good check to do anyway on a car you just bought. It'll tell you if the turbo is good.

It threw the code again and started doing the same thing so I'm going to run the code today after work. Yeah the car had about a quart and a half in it so it was very low. Ill check the Turbo while I'm in it and stuff. So we will see what the deal is and go from there.

As suggested, run the code fix that and boost leak test. That'll straighten up a few things. Best of luck and keep us posted man.

code was p0300, random misfire from what ive read. There are so many different things that ive read it could be. No simple answer like change this and it will be fixed!

Anyone have some other ideas are are my options really only plugs, wires, coils, alt?

This is only a broblem when sustaining a constant rpm, about 2800 to 3200 then my car starts to sound like a wrx LOL I trow it in neutral then let the idle drop and its gone. But as soon as i hold that rpm again BAM! it misfires

Anyone?

Thanks

Quick fix could be your MAF, if you have a second one, try putting a second one in to see if your sensor is out for the count. If you only have that one, clean the sensor inside. If that doesn't work ecu/plugs/wire/coils is what you're looking to test.

Think I may have found your exact problem, see if this works (same issues as you)

If your running alot of boost on the stock ECU, it could be fuel cut. Mine cut @ 22psi & sputtered just like that.

As for the humming, a walbro will whine, so that could be down to interpretation.

Seriously doubt its fuel cut. It feels like you hit a brick wall as opposed to a sputter. Now would be a good time to obtain and install a wideband. You'll need one eventually anyways if you plan on doing any future performance mods to the car and it will give you some important information as to where the the problem lies. Also a restricted fuel filter would cause both the increased pump noise and a fuel pressure issue.

I have this problem and ofcourse i still need to install my boost gauge, doing it this weekend. On a hard pull i get alittle sputter at the top of 1st and in 3rd it like just dies out of no where, will keep going if i let off the gas and get back into it but just stops. Would this be the fuel cut?

mbc on the way hoping that would help. And i will be able to tell you how much boost later today after i get the gauge installed. It was supposed to be stock and i did the solenoid mod and removed the insert.

ok so i got my boost gauge hooked up today. Well sort of. I broke the nipple off the sender unit and had to ghetto rig it until the company sends me another one. But anyways I noticed the stutter with anything over 15psi and i was spiking up to as high as 25psi. I have a mbc on the way along with a walbro 190 that i am going to rewire, new front mount and piping, and a bov that should seal better then the one i have now. Should this help the problem? Oh, i also have some evo 560s coming too.

Also i know that its not TOTALLY accurate until i get the new sender but i cant be that far off. Cant it?
