I recently installed a walbro 255 fuel pump on my 90 gsx. It was running fine for a couple of weeks but now I hear this loud humming noise comming from it. Ever since this noise started my car has been running like crap. Ill be driving down the street and all of a sudden the car will lose power but then go back to normal when i accelarate. It feels as if my car isnt getting the fuel it needs to boost. I was wondering could this possibly be the fuel filter? Any help would gladly be appreciated. Thank you :dsm: :thumb:

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? The 255lph walbro does have a high pitched whine to it, Which is definatly audible. Change the fuel filter, And if the problem persists, Just take the sending unit out and make sure the connections are all tight too.

I suggest changing the filter, and maybe doing the fuel pump rewire mod. I don't have it but some says its necessary. The whine is normal, my 255 whines a bit, which I like.

On a side note, do you have any sort of fuel press regulator (aftermarket), larger injectors, and tuning equipment? If not, this may have something to do w/ it. Possibly it over-ran your stock Regulator and its broke now?

How is your car idling?

ps, the fuel filter is going to be a bi*** to change!

I just put in a new fuel filter and the problem still persist. I noticed that my boost doesnt drop when it looses power, my RPMs just dont want to go. I havent changed injectors, or fuel regulator im going to change the regulator tomorrow see what happens. Im also going to buy that Zmax stuff to try and clean my injectors. I have a new set of 660s but i cant put them on until i put my maf translator. Oh but the way the car idles is weird specially when im at a red light my car will drop to about 400rpms. If the car has been sittin out for say a couple hours, when i turn the car on itll struggle staying on. What will happen if i rewire the fuel pump? how will that help me?

I say its 1 of two thinkgs causing your problem. Either it is overly rich from running a 255 and no adjustable regulator or the o-ring that seals the pump to the pickup is torn or cocked cuasing an internal pressure leak.

As far as the rewire, it wont help in either situation. If it is just a rich condition causing the problem, a rewire will just make it worse. You should install an afpr to help control the excess pressure the 255 creates.

Was running a 255HP on mine without an AFPR (prior owner), didn't have all those problems though... lack of power and bad gas mileage were the biggest problems, along with a huge amount of throttle lag.

Turned out that the injectors had been overrun for so long, the apertures on two had been 'stretched', and three of the actuators were 'fluttering'. The fourth had failed entirely.

New 450s, o-rings and an Aeromotive AFPR later, and everything's golden (except for a possible torn o-ring on the pump fitting). Recommend that you get a permanent underhood fuel pressure gauge. Makes setting the FPR so much easier than taking off the fuel filter banjo bolt and hooking one up any time you suspect a problem with the fuel pressure. :)

Thanks guys ill check all these things out and ill come back to let u guys what was the problem :thumb:
