Yes, of course I have already searched. All the 'related' threads never truly get resolved or have little to NO responses.

I swapped out my fuel pump for an evo 8 pump and replaced the entire fuel line with -6 braided ss hose (from the tank all the way to the fuel rail).

I go to start the car and it doesn't start. Basically the fuel pump isn't turning on.

The fuel pump is rewired, and I have already verified that the relay for the rewire is good. Also I have checked all the connections there and they seem to be perfect as well.
Also, I have verified the fuel pump is good by wiring it directly to the battery (and it did turn on)

What do I need to go about checking? From what little I gathered, the MPI relay or the fuel pump relay might have gone bad. I just don't understand how that would occur after just installing a new fuel pump.

Are these the fuel pump and MPI relays?

Have you checked your fusible links? I don't have a 2g circuit diagram handy, but on a 1g, the fuel pump goes through a 30A fusible link.

Where/what is a fusible link?

I've only seen 1 fuse under the hood that said "fusible" on it, and it is fine.

Fusible links look like this:

30A Pal Auto Link 0PAL030.XP by Littelfuse | DoItYourself.com

They have a clear plastic window on the top where you can see through to the metal fuse inside.

You'll probably want to look in the engine bay in your fuse box. Check all the large ones, but more important to look for one labeled ignition if there is one. I'd recommend taking them out and measuring them with a multimeter.

Another update:

I took the fuel pump out of the tank, but left it hooked up, and I used the fuel pump test connector, and sure enough the fuel pump turned right on.

Then, I put the fuel pump back into the tank and tried using the fuel pump test connector again, and nothing happens except I can hear the fuel pump relays click.

I have the fuel line to the fuel rail disconnected, so that I know whenever it starts squirting fuel, everything is working properly again. No fuel has come out of the line at all.

I am OUT of ideas. Somebody has to know this.... :beatentodeath:

Something must be happening to the wiring when you're putting the pump back in the tank. What would be best is to use a multimeter to measure voltage at various connectors/relays along the way and at the pump to see where you're seeing voltage and where you're not. This should help pinpoint where the problem is.

Resolved:

I always had read that the evo fuel pump is a direct drop in.

Uhmm....no? I figured out that where you plug the connector on the evo fuel pump isn't the exact same and has much smaller contacts, which can't make a good connection.

So I just put back in the old pump, and car fires right up. :notgood:
