Hello everyone! I'm a newbie to the forums and you guys have constantly helped me with a lot of problems. This one unfortunately is quite odd.

So, I was driving one day and my fuel pump stopped working. Know that there was no "whine" the automat assumption is to buy a new fuel pump. Checked sparks and everything else.I installed the new one (A 255 walbro) and there was also a rewire (from the previous owner). This still didnt fix the problem! I brought a new relay and still nothing. The relay clicks when I turn the car on so its getting voltage.

The only thing I can say is, when put the car to the ON position I can hear a click coming from the fuel pump area. It clicks once and doesn't do anything. Can anybody please help me solve this, I'm pulling my hair out and not trying to sell this car. Is it a possible relay problem? What do you guys think? :(

Put a volt meter on the wires as close to the fuel pump as possible. Check for voltage there and work your way back. If the relay is clicking I would check the fuse and connections on the rewire. As the rewire is now your power source and the original wire just turns the relay on.Could also be a bad ground. Did they add a new ground with the rewire? Check the connections on that also.

Thanks for the reply. Where is the fuse located and where do i connect the voltmeter to? Which wires are supposed to be tested?

There should be a fuse between the relay power and the battery. Perhaps you just blew that fuse? it sounds like the relay is still getting power. I'd completely redo your pump rewire.

This is probably a grounding issue, check the fuel pump ground and fuel pump bulk head ground. If the grounds are ok check the fuel pump fuse(s). There should only be one but you indicated a "new wire" was run and that might have a hidden fuse on it placed by a previous owner. Finally check the relay, and continuity of the fuel pump itself.

Best of Luck

Okay, so i brought a volt meter. I never used one of these before, what should I test for and what am I supposed to test on? What is the fuel pump fuse called? And how can I test to see if its working do I need to turn the car on the ON position or actually try to start it? Can someone show me some pictures, links, or a diagram? The simpiler he better

Please explain this to me like I'm 5 LOL pictures really help

I'm no electrical expert and I don't have the energy to completely explain it to you, but the summary is that you should see 12v at your power connections (power at relay/battery etc). Look on your multimeter instructions and find out how to test for voltage...then test your fuel pump power wires for 12 volts. Report back.

So I've tried doing that, I kept getting 11.80v or so. Low car battery from previous starts... This is becoming very difficult. Are all of the relay wires supposed to have 12v or some? I just need someone to break this down for me so I can do this without having to call a... Ew.... Mechanic because I know they're gonna charge me way to much. This problem should be easy to fix right? I just need someone to give me how tos and definitive answers.
