1G fuel pump going out?

ok so ive developed a whine in the rear of my car. it will do it at a stand still and when im going down the road if i push down about half way on the pedal. I hit a bump on the way home which actually seemed to minimalize if not stop the whine but im sure it will be back. oh ya car is a 92 eclipse 1.8l ive got three spare fuel pumps either from my two parts cars or one i kind of "borrowed" from a car sitting in the weeds down the street. but ive also got a full tank so i dont want to be draining the tank unless its 100% necessary. has anyone else experienced this with the stock pump? it only started maybe 200 miles ago. i drive about 40 miles daily to and from work. whats everyones opinion would you all risk it and wait till the tank is empty, drain it, or carry an extra with you just in case until the tank is empty?

First of all be sure to check your grammar and punctuation. Makes it much easier to figure out your problem. A whining fuel pump doesn't always mean it is going bad. You will usually see poor performance or gas mileage or the car just flat won't start. If you can do a fuel pressure test that would be ideal. If not, you can just remove the fuel pump without completely dropping the tank but you will need to run out some gas. Just be sure the noise is coming from the fuel pump area. With changing the pump, I would check the condition of the inside of the gastank and make sure it isn't full of junk that is just going to plug the new pump. Also be sure to change the fuel filter at the same time. Here is a link to the pump install.

sorry about my poor punctuation after 78 hours of working straight and only a few hours of sleep a day you start to not care. as for changing the pump ive done it before and as long as the damn screws come out i wont have any problems. when i first start the car its a bit of a pain to get started i have to crank it and crank it for awhile depending on how cold it is. but after it warms up if fires up on the first try

I would also recommend changing the fuel filter. With the long cranking the fuel pressure regulator could be on the fritz, or as your leaning toward with the noise back there. The pump is probably on its last leg. You only need about half a tank in the FWDs to change a pump. Since you have pumps laying around I wouldn't risk a long drive to work and breaking down on a highway some where. If you can test fuel pressure that's a good idea but a fuel flow test is easier and more readily available to most people.

ya the filter is in my back seat waiting on the pump. i guess after work tonight ill be draining the tank and changing the pump. on the plus side she passed inspection today without a muffler and i got it insured

As far as the whing goes, it may be the FP as you suspect. The issue you are having at startup, I had a similar problem with my car. The problem was being caused by my "T" temp sensor (on thermostat housing) connector wires being broken. When the car was cold, the engine didn't want to start. Once it has been run for a while, I had no problems. I would check those wires and just make sure there are no breaks in the wires.

If your tank is full of junk, the sock on the pump could be clogged making the pump work harder and produce the whine you hear. My stock was doing that I replaced the sock and went away for about a day or two then the whine returned it was clogged again. I guess from sitting it has a lot of sludge build up and the new gas dissolved it and my fuel sock caught it. I just ran it really low on fuel dropped the tank and washed it all out since I was replacing my pump I didnt want to take a chance to ruin it.

ok so i still havent changed it and on my way home from work i didnt get the usual squeal.
