Fuel Pressure Regulator

Hey guys just a reminder we are here to help not bash.

First off what kind of pump are you running. Do you have any links to this AFPR. I suggest to get a fuel pressure gauge on now, and use that to adjust you reg, untill then keep the stock reg on. Don't just guess on what is the right fuel pressure. That's a bad Idea, running too lean can and will hurt your engine. I'm not trying to be your mother. The reason people were not giving you the why to turn the AFPR because they don't want to see someone damage there car. If you go too lean. I would rather have you keep your car rich then have you try to lean out the car with out a gauge. There are lots of very smart people on here that have years of experiance.

Thanks man, yea the guy I got the FPR from told me to turn it half a twist and it would be fine. I just didn't know which way he meant and I couldn't get a hold of him to ask. Thanks for the warning and the help.

Are you sure that it is your fpr causing this problem? The reason I'm asking is... an exhaust leak will cause the same problem. I myself have a small exhaust leak and I get a little back fire once in a while. I'm also using the stock fpr.

I feel like my IQ dropped below tar-tar level after reading this thread chock full of someone who is just asking to lose an engine. I need a shower, I feel logically violated.

ROTFLOL

InnerCircleVP, Is this your Daily Driver? Is that why you need to know right now instead of waiting until the FP gauge is installed?

If it is not your DD, then I think the consensus is to wait until you have a gauge. You may not appreciate the sarcastic tone of the comments, but the advice is sound. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of stories about people who have toasted their engines by not knowing exactly what their cars were doing... present company included.

Even if your friend had the FPR set at a level which worked for his car, that setting does not necessarily apply to any car that it is subsequently placed on. Besides the normal questions such as condition/size of the fuel pumps and size/condition of the injectors, there are so many other ways that the two cars can differ. Ever notice how two cars completely stock from the MFR can perform so dramatically different? Not all cars of the same make/model are identical.

WRT lowering your FP and potentially leaning your A/F without knowing how much the engine is detonating (knock counts) or pulling timing (advance/retard), you are basically playing a crap shoot. If it were that easy to modify a car, then everyone would be running 10s. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Hope you take this post in the manner in which it was intended. Helpful and not sarcastic.

Good luck....

BTW, in case you disregard the advice and blow up your engine, I do have a spare block and head that I can sell you... :)

LOL thanks for the offer, yea its my daily driver. I don't think its an exhuast leak cause it started happening right after a put my new BOV and fuel pressure regulator on. My friend told me that it is just gettin a little 2 much fuel and not burning it all and to turn it down a half of twist. I'm going in to my auot shop on monday to have them put my gauge on and tune a few things for me. I just wanted to let off on the pressure a little to stop the backfiring so bad. I already turned it down and it is still backfiring a little but not as much and just really softly. I also think the BOV has a little to do with the problems i'm currently having cause its venting to atmosphere. But hopefully everything will get takin care of on Monday. Thanks again

You can run the perfect Air Fuel ratio (perfect setting on your AFC and AFPR) and still have backfires between shifts or when you get off the throttle if you are venting to atmosphere and still on the stock MAS. Venting to atmosphere is bad unless you have changed/altered the current MAS setup. I know, I would shoot fireballs between shifts when I had my Tial BOV on until I went to a GM MAFT setup on blow-through. After that, my backfires (and fireballs stopped immediately)

When you turn the screw in, it closes the gap between the screw and the end of the screw hole. So, you'd be letting less fuel through, thus lowering the pressure. Turning it out opens the gap, letting more fuel through, and raising the pressure.
