So I'm looking to reuse my previous front case, what physically should I be looking for on the case to make sure it's in spec. Also, what do I look for on the oil pump gears, and how can I measure the side clearances accurately? The gears don't look like they're in that bad shape but I'm not sure what to look for or how to measure the clearance between them and the casing.

Here's a picture of the front case after I cleaned it up a bit, is there too much scoring going on?

A little scoring should be okay, I'll let someone else chime in on how to check clearances and the gears.

I know what the clearances are supposed to be, I have a copy of the FSM, I just don't know how to measure them? Also, what about the scoring?

I'm sorry, the FSM shows how to measure the clearances so I assumed you didn't have it.

Can't see the scoring well enough in those to how deep/bad it is. Since it's likely you'll also want to replace the seals you might be better off with a fresh one.
