This is my first rebuild, and I rebuilt the whole thing pretty much. I'm to the point to start it up for the first time, but have to prime it first. As this being my first build I don't know what a fresh engine should sound like.

I disconnected the coil pack and injectors. Went to crank it for a few secs and it made sort of a grr sound. Check some stuff, like mechanical timing to quadruple check to see if it was in time, and went and cranked it for about a sec. I only did it for a second because it made a bad sounding grinding sound and I didn't want to keep on it.

I don't know what its suppose to behave like or sound when cranking it for the first time.. I wanted to get it started up today, but don't want to ruin anything, so I'm going to wait for some replys.

EDIT*

And some more info, the short block was built by slowboy racing, so I assume they used lube on all the bearings.

Yeah, I'm going to check some more stuff like the stater and the teeth on the flywheel first before I try cranking it again.

Ended up being the starter, the gears were not matching up and grinding. No damage was done to the flywheel gear, thank God.

But now the car wont build oil pressure as I crank it over. Or at least my aftermarket gauge isn't reading any.

maybe when you installed the motor you might of not hooked up the oil pressure sensor right...!!

I think the gauge or sender is junk, kept trying to prime it with no read on the sensor. Took a look in the head and there was oil up there flowing back down. So oil is moving, just can tell the pressure. I guess I'm going to get a new one before I start it up for the first time... =(

And its an electrical one.
